Aside from my disdain of a committee choosing the teams, this slate of bowl games has proven to me that the current system we have in college football is broken. Here are the biggest issues I see:

1. Trying to mix the Old Bowl system with a New Playoff System just doesn't work

You either need to do one or the other, but trying to mix the two just doesn't work. No one cares about the ACC's tie-in with the Orange Bowl. This causes a team like UVA... who shouldn't even be ranked in the Top 25... to get into a playoff game, which will therefore give us a game no one wants to see. Completely wasted spot which could have been a good game if a decent opponent for Florida had been slotted.

2. It's time to stop pretending the PAC 12 is relevant

All season long the so called "experts" told us how great Utah is and how we peasants just don't know how good they are. Utah is not a good team. They have zero wins against Top 25 teams. We were told they have an exceptionally great defense.... only reality showed us that when they faced two Top 25 opponents, they went 0-2 and gave up 30 and 37 points each outing, respectively. Sorry, but there is nothing special about that defense.

The 5th best team in the SEC has now defeated the PAC 12 Champions on a neutral field in back-to-back seasons.

In the past four years, the PAC 12 has produced just twelve teams to finish ranked in the Final AP Top 25..... these 12 teams which are the best to come out of that league in the past four seasons are a combined 2-9 against other ranked opponents.... and that doesn't count losses to UNRANKED opponents like USC's loss this year to BYU or Washington's loss last season to Auburn.

Why do we pretend that the PAC 12 is on par with these other leagues? It's not. How is it that different than the American?

3. The ACC is also a joke

At least they are giving us one quality team each year that can compete at a National level. However, there's too much at stake for there to be THIS much inequality when it comes to SOS among the potential Playoff teams. How can a team like Auburn be asked to play the #1, #5, #6, #7, and #13 teams all in the regular season yet a team like Clemson face only the #24 team in an extra game played in December?

How many other teams would be 13-0 against Clemson's schedule? I'm guessing at least 15 teams, and most of those would have also looked very impressive in the process.

College football is becoming somewhat unwatchable. There needs to be a major overhaul to the system.

Or there's just more parity than there used to be, so teams without big names (Baylor and Virginia) are in big bowls. That, and the ACC and Pac-12 suck.

I actually agree with this argument. Virgina vs Florida is a snooze fest that no one wants to watch right now.

NY6 Bowls should not be slated into "conference runner up" when that conference runner up has 4 losses

You're not wrong about the PAC 12 or ACC. I can think of a lot of teams with undefeated records with Clemson's schedule, including some with 3 losses.

The problem with the ACC is that there's really only two other schools that have put forth the effort to even try and compete at that level - Florida State and Miami, and both of those are in a tailspin with no real hope for the future.

Clemson might very well go undefeated in the SEC East - but they play in a conference barely above G5. We'll never know how well they handle playing a tough schedule, week in and week out. As it stands they can prep for their opening game, and then start game planning around potential playoff opponents. No one in the SEC can afford to do that.

Your major overhaul is to go to a 16 playoff, I guess.
Since the bowls have now been relegated to ever more uselessness, does it really matter who gets tied to which bowl?

Virginia is not in a big bowl because they are good. They are in a big bowl because we have a broken system.

They lost to 6-6 Miami... they also lost to Louisville.
They are 0-2 against ranked opponents, and the average score of those games was 19-49.

What kind of system rewards a team like this with a premiere bowl while quality teams like Alabama and Auburn are left out all together?

The bowl tie ins should only be used if a team can finish in the Top 12 or 15. Otherwise it just wastes a game that could have otherwise been fun to watch.

This has nothing to do with the Playoff. The Top 4 teams are correct for once. It's the rest of the bowls that are awful.

Would you still think it's broken if UGA had won Saturday?

One thing that would be good for college football in my opinion is for a more diverse mix of teams stepping up and making the playoff. It's getting to be where it's a yearly tournament between Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Oklahoma with a few exceptions sprinkled in.

That's not their fault of course, if you want them out you have to beat them but I think it would be refreshing to see some of the other programs in there. Folks like Florida, Michigan, Texas, USC, Tennessee and the like need to step up.

Maybe.

I think more than just the post season needs to be overhauled though.... We need to quit pretending programs like Vandy, Wake Forest, Purdue, etc. are worthy of playing in the big leagues.

College Football should shed its dead weight and come down to about 40-45 programs total... and teams that make the cut should only play eachother. At that point, going undefeated would become very difficult, however most every game on television would be fun to watch.

Absolutely. My gripe is not about the playoff, its about the other NY6 bowl games. Can you not read?

My main problem with the bowls is that many teams, such as Bama, UGA, LSU... don’t want to be in the Sugar or Citrus bowl. If they aren’t they n the playoffs, it’s a let down. Players will sit out and the team won’t show up. It happened last year in the Sugar. It happened with Bama and Utah. I’m not knocking anyone either. Fournette and Greedy sat at LSU.
I think the only way to keep teams motivated would be to expand the playoffs.
