I get that, but it still boils down to the ACC being shite this year (and the playoff poaching its champion)...

I think that the combo system is still better than either extreme alternative. If we go to 1994 pre bowl alliance, we're looking at the top 3 undefeated teams all playing in three different bowls. And the best way for the non playoff bowls to keep relevance is to retain as best as possible the traditional tie ins. Yeah it sucks for orange and sugar that they lose the best teams to the playoff, but I'm not sure there's a better way.

I agree with your analysis. The American Conference was more competitive from top to bottom than either the PAC 12 or ACC. I believe at one point during the season the AAC had 5 teams ranked: Navy, Temple, Tulane, SMU and Memphis. Houston, UCF and East Carolina are down this year but all have good tradition. Time to let the AAC join the P5.

Georgia wouldn't have been undefeated with Clemson's schedule

I'll say this:

If they ever expand beyond 8 teams, they should do away with the bowl games altogether.

The playoffs are great for declaring a champ, but terrible if you liked the old way of bowl games as rewards. The playoffs are now the rewards, and the bowl games are the participation trophy. If you're not playing for it all, can you blame players for sitting? Orange Bowl or Citrus Bowl, it's just an exhibition game at that point. A chance to get hurt, lose millions. Who benefits? The school is already getting the money once selected.

If the players start sitting out in droves and ruining the product on the field, I fully imagine that there will be a domino effect that either leads to the collapse of the bowl system or those games fighting back against the playoffs.

Clemson having an unfair advantage with being well rested come playoff time isn’t talked about enough. They play maybe one half way tough game then it’s rest up until the playoffs which equals fresh legs. There is no doubt they have a great team but my god that schedule is a joke.

1. Wrong thread?
2. You're really overthinking this. Everybody gets three weeks off, and you think it's that big of a deal that a few starters played 15 fewer minutes all season?

They got the top4 right and that's what matters most.

But it's damn near impossible to frick that up. Beyond the top4 it's a literal trainwreck.

Just don't watch them.

Not sure why people think they need to ruin the bowl games for everyone else.

Clemson might very well go undefeated in the SEC East

We seriously going to act like that sentence needs an East qualifier?

Oh? Are you not sure who's better, Alabama's third string or Michigan's second?

No. Time to let the PAC 12 and ACC become mid-majors.

It's football and I'm going to the game most likely. I'm hoping to score some really cheap tickets.

Agreed with all of your points.

The bowl system is a shell of what it once was even in the BCS era.

It will only get worse with players with low draft grades/potential sitting out in massive numbers

I’m talking about the grind of an entire season. Playing in the SEC is a lot more physical than playing in the ACC due to competition.

That's the division they'd be in.

I would say that it would be like this:

SEC West x2-x3 times harder to go undefeated in than the SEC East.

SEC East x7-x8 times harder to go undefeated in than the ACC (division irrelevant).

You forgot 4, 5 and 6:

#4, The Big 10 is a joke, they are all overrated.

#5, The Big 12 is a joke, all offense and no defense.

#6, the SEC is down this year. Any time Alabama isn't the champion, the SEC must be down.

To sum it all up, everyone sucks in college football.

Agreed. The New Year's Six games should have no contracts with conferences on who goes to a certain game.

Power 5 champions should be assured a playoff or New Year's Six Bowl and that is it.
