i dont think there is anything I'm more opposed to than an 8 team playoff.

4 is more than enough.

No 8 team and no 6 team...must win your division at the very least to be considered for the playoffs...

6 team.
1-2 draw bye
3-6 play in games. 3-4 get home field week after season is over.
Final 4 continue as is.

Well the first round of the playoffs start in next Saturday conference championship. So my opinion Notre Dame should be left out every year no matter their record, since they always miss the first round of playoffs. Second round all who qualify should be undefeated teams and 1 loss teams.
Should some how get to 6 teams, if it would be 8 teams needs to be more big comferences playing against one another. That would be 8 conference championships undefeated or 1 loss moves on unless there is a 2 loss team that won but a 1 loss team that did not get in the conference champ game would leap frog into the regular 4 team playoff at end of December. Needs to be some sort of change definitely change in scheduling.
Ohio St and Clemson played some cup cakes all year and hardly any of them ranked. Ohio St played their first ranked team all year in Penn St and barely won. Ohio St probably loses one of these next three games or all 3.

8 teams is by far the correct amount. FCS has 32 teams in the tournament for crying out loud. And 11 reg season games. That’s the way you do it

I'd like to see an 8-team playoff with the first 2 rounds played on-campus. Make a rule that only Conference Champs get to host and take the first 4 seeds. Otherwise seeding is based upon computer formulas.
Assume no upsets:
*Alabama beats Auburn
*LSU beats A&M and Georgia
*Ohio State beats Minnesota
*Utah beats Oregon
*Oklahoma beats OK State and Baylor
1-seed: LSU (SEC Champs)
2-seed: Ohio State (BIG 10 Champs)
3-seed: Clemson (ACC Champs)
4-seed: Utah (PAC 12 Champs)
5-seed: Alabama (at large)
6-seed: Oklahoma (BIG 12 Champs)
7-seed: Georgia (at large #2)
8-seed: Minnesota (at large #3)
ROUND 1:
(8) Minnesota at (1) LSU in Baton Rouge
(7) Georgia at (2) Ohio St. in Columbus
(6) Oklahoma at (3) Clemson in Clemson
(5) Alabama at (4) Utah in Salt Lake City
ROUND 2 (Assuming no 1st round upsets):
(4) Utah at (1) LSU in Baton Rouge
(3) Clemson at (2) Ohio St. in Columbus
CHAMPIONSHIP:
Rotate every 3 years between Pasadena, Arlington, and Atlanta

Go back to SEC winner goes to Sugar Bowl.
Or BCS.
Or play first round on campus before Christmas.

Judging from the one sided semi- final games the past four years, I’d say four may be too many. Eight teams is a joke. The conference championships are pretty much de facto elimination games so there you go.

I would be okay with 8 teams with the quarter and semi finals played at the higher seed home stadium. That would be pretty cool.
Clemson playing in Columbus in January
Alabama playing in Minnesota in January
Get them that NFL experience early

I get where you're going with this and that argument has been made by a lot of people. Still, I don't like the idea of expanding the CFP. The whole idea was to ensure that #1 and #2 square off for a championship. I'm pretty certain that the number one and two teams are included within those top four. That is - as long as the playoff committee keeps focused and doesn't start playing around with the "eye-test" bull shyte. That's what caused all the problems in the previous systems.
I think it might be a good idea to use the former criteria for the BCS rankings to determine the best four teams and then let it work itself out from there.
Football isn't like basketball. You can't keep expanding the playoff field to include sixty-four teams. Keep it at four. The top two will be in there.
