So in the past few season the volunteers and the comodoors have struggled to recruit at an accepteable SEC level. I believe it is because the modern high school football recruit does not enjoy the country music allure that is Tenessee's biggest draw. Kids these days are more concerned with rap about drugs and voilence than with classic Christian and family undertones of country music. Kids these days would prefer to go to a USC with stars like Snoop Dog than go to Vanderbilt to see classic artists like George Strait. Id say its a shame but I think Louisiana having a good rap history with Lil Boosy it definitely helps us pull in recruits.

Country music is full of crap. It is not wholesome as you seem to imply.

Note: UT and VU play as much rap music in their arenas as anyone else. And there are plenty of places for kids to go hear whatever kind of music they like in Nashville and Knoxville.

Music has zero to do with VU and UT recruiting.

Vandy can’t recruit well because they are Vandy

I think it’s because of the repeating double letters in “Tennessee”. It pisses them off.

Interesting theory, Gary. Did you choose your school due to the music selection on the 8-track tape when walking on campus? Not enough Hank Williams with Christian and family undertones? I’m sure that’s a great reason to choose where you go. Not education ranking or proximity to home or, I don’t know, football prestige? I assume you didn’t go to school with all the bad spelling so you had zero choice.

With that logic Idk why anyone would want to go to Tuscaloosa if the surrounding area's culture is such a big draw to their student athletes... Maybe it's cause they win?

Tennessee quit recruiting nationally. Look at their classes from ‘98-‘02. The vast majority of their players came from Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Arizona, New Jersey, Illinois and California.

I don't like rap music, but I think music has probably absolutely nothing to do with recruiting. You can listen to whatever you want, whenever you want. It's not like these athletes have time to go to concerts, with school and practice.

Tennessee just hasn't been any good in a long time. And they keep hiring head coaches who just really don't have any credibility with recruits, because they don't have track records.

With Vandy, this isn't new. They have always been bad. They throw in a 7 win season once in a blue moon, and then they go right back in the toilet. It doesn't help them that their academic standards are too high for a lot of prospects, but honestly, who wants to play for Vanderbilt?

Now, in baseball, Vandy actually benefits from their academic standing, as they are allowed to give out academic scholarships on top of athletic scholarships. Because of the ridiculous limits on athletic scholarships in baseball, that puts everybody else at a big disadvantage to schools like Vandy.

WOW! Those people need to be touched by the Crusades. Savages must be civilized.
