Seems like you aren't giving Alabama credit for the Auburn win, which would also be happening.

I think if they compare Oregon to Alabama's schedule then it becomes clear. 2 losses vs 1. Then you look at it from the flip side, undefeated Alabama.

Maybe so, but I think that the fact that the 2 games are 3 full months apart is going to blur that a little bit.

But as I was saying above, if we don't look really good against Auburn and like a team that has a real chance to still win it, then I think it would be best to just miss out on it. Need a statement game.

I definitely agree. If we come out and hammer Auburn, something like 27-3 or whatever, in a dominating fashion.........then I think the Alabama vs Auburn compared to Oregon vs Auburn thing gains a whole lot more traction.

But it is hard for me to sit here and predict us winning a game over there like that. And I really don't want to be "disappointed" if we "only" win 20-10 or 20-17, you know?

I totally agree. If we look like slaw I don’t want to get plastered in the playoffs. However, we would have a ton of time to get better...

I dunno, just win baby.

I had a brief moment when I was in the "I don't even want to go to the playoffs and lose" camp after the Tua injury. Was thinking the same thing - I don't want to sneak in and get blown out and deal with the blow back of "you didn't deserve it" "LSU beat you twice" etc. But then I grew a pair and said frick that - who gives a shite what people say? If we have a chance to keep the perfect playoff streak alive, screw the haters.

ETA: But I don't think we are making the playoff barring both the Big 12 and Pac 12 champs having two losses. When they start comparing 1 loss teams I think we will come up short, and I won't really have a problem with that.

I hope we make the playoffs, even if we were to lose the 1st round. Imo, it is better than a non playoff bowl game. Who knows, maybe the committee will factor in ESPN's FPI that has us at 3 currently..lol

And I know, it is a longshot to make it right now, but the great thing about CF, is the surprises late in the season.

I mean, I don’t feel like most sane people think we have a chance unless the PAC 12 and Big 12 champs both have 2 losses. If that doesn’t happen we are out. If that does happen, we are going to be in.

This all assumes we beat Auburn of course.

It would be nice if we could start strategically scheduling the #2/#3 OOC game the same way we strategically schedule solid mid-majors in basketball.

I know you can't predict who will be good or bad, but you can have a general idea. For instance, New Mexico State is probably going to be the worst D1 team in America. That is predictable. On the flip side, App St, Memphis, Toledo, Utah St, San Diego St and Wyoming are probably going to be somewhere between good and solid.

25. SMU
24. Appalachian State
23. USC
22. Iowa State
21. Oklahoma State
20. Boise State
19. Cincinnati
18. Memphis

The rent-a-win games don't have to be scheduled far in advance. We can/should schedule 3 quality G5s (no FCS) that are expected to have good W-L records and decent chances of being ranked.

We almost HAVE to have Oregon or Utah lose to one of the Arizona schools this weekend or Colorado and Oregon State on rivalry weekend. Then for the loser to beat the other in the PAC 12 title game. I guess if both of them dropped one in the last two weeks, that would be even better.

We also need Baylor to lose to either Texas Saturday or Kansas next week (LOL), then to exact revenge on Jalen and Oklahoma in the Big XII title game.

I am assuming LSU, Ohio State, and Clemson win out. If one of them were to drop one, it might help. LSU, probably not, Ohio State debatable, depending on who and how, and Clemson definitely.

If these stars don't align, you can forget it unless we beat Auburn 49-3 in Jordan Hare and even then, it's a crap shoot.

This might be the best realistic scenario for us:
#1 LSU, #2 OSU, #3 CU win out.
Solid win @ AU, Mac plays well.
Utah (loss vs 4-loss USC) barely beats Oregon.
Baylor loses vs Texas on Sat. OU loses 1 more.

Better but less likely scenarios would be Oregon loses to Arizona St and/or Utah loses to Arizona on Sat. USC has the head-to-head tie-breaker vs Utah to then be the PAC12 South champ -- then Oregon's final resumé wouldn't have any wins over ranked teams.

Our biggest problem is the SEC is down. Way down.

Tennessee loses to Georgia State
Arkansas gets boat raced by Western Kentucky
South Carolina, who beats UGA, loses to App State.

We are down. Way down.

We scored 41 on LSU. And lost.

This is not the world in which I'm familiar. I think this conference has an identity crisis at the moment.

The SEC has turned into the Big 12 with the exception of UGA.

I do have to say, it would be cool to see things click at Auburn, get some fortune and barnstorm into the playoffs.......but it's also nice that if we go win at Auburn I'll still be pretty happy with the year.

Maybe I'm just becoming a softie.

Our biggest problem for the playoffs is that our starting QB is done for the year and more than half of our defensive starters from Fall Camp are out with injuries. If by some miracle we make it into the CFB Playoff, we are going to get ran by a more complete Ohio State team.

We'd have to dominate Auburn both on the field and the scoreboard to have a chance...and I don't think that's gonna happen.

I hope we can all agree that if we go in and beat Auburn we will be happy and not be dissapointed we didn't win 49-3.......right?

We can all agree on that?

I'll be as happy as a possum in a peach patch if we were to win by 1 point, in quadruple OT.

Little brother is hard to beat in Jordan Hare. I will be giddy if we get out of there with a win. One point is good enough for me.
