This is why I hate a Committee making the decisions

A perfect example:
Two teams from the same Conference....
*Oklahoma is 7-1
*Baylor is 8-0
*Oklahoma has defeated zero teams in the Top 25
*Baylor has defeated TWO teams in the Top 25
*Oklahoma LOST at #16 Kansas State by 7 points
*Baylor WON at #16 Kansas State by 19 points
What basis would one have to rank Oklahoma ahead of Baylor at this point in the season? But of course, the Committee did just that, ranking 7-1 Oklahoma at #9 and undefeated Baylor at #12.
This is a perfect example of "Brand" trumping actual facts and results on the field. It's also the same reason Ohio State came in at #1 ahead of LSU who clearly has the better resume.

Hard to argue with your point. Things will be much clearer in a few weeks though.

Absolutely amazing the turn around Baylor has made.

I’m completely fine with OSU being ranked #1.
I do agree that Baylor got shafted though

Only bright side is this will be settled on the field.
Still, your point stands.

I would actually be OK with this if I were a Baylor fan because it has to motivate the team. But I do agree with you.

Ohio State is ranked higher in advanced metrics and has a better SOS. They also beat their top 2 opponents by 73 points.
They have a better resume

That's what everyone says. But when there is a debate between #4 and #5, "Brand" always wins.
Same reason why Ohio State went ahead of Penn State a few years back.
Same reason why Ohio State went ahead of Baylor/TCU a few years before that.
This is why a Committee cannot be trusted. The resort to "eye test" to get the brand they want into the Playoff.

Other than Bama getting in over Wisky in 2017 the committee's decisions have been hard to argue with.
I think going to a 8 team format and codifying criteria more would improve the product though.

The only reason they release rankings is for talking points
Despite it meaning absolutely nothing it creates conversation.
All of this will sort itself out with so many head to head meetings coming up.
I don't think Ohio St makes it through unbeaten to begin with.
It's going to be chaos this year.

I think this boils down to the eye test and who they think would win the most games if these teams play 10 games at a neutral site.
I think Oklahoma would win 8/10. The playoff committee is about ranking the best teams, not the teams with the best records.
I think they did a pretty good job and this will be settled on the field.

I agree Baylor's results are impressive. Whether they are less rapey now is another question. Their programs have been stubbornly sleazy over decades.

The members of the committee are subject to the same biases and habits of the people who vote in the AP, the old outdated system that people complained about. It's BS.

Exactly!! Penn State having 2 losses, including getting blown out by Michigan, had absolutely nothing to do with it.

That's why any system using opinion polls as the basis of determining a champion is biased and flawed. If you're going to use opinion polls, just go back to poll champions. If you want to have a playoff, use an objective tournament of champions.
The reason so many people don't want a tournament of champions is that, in their OPINION, some conference champions are "better" than others. But you don't objectively know that until they play.
Under the current system, 75% of the field is automatically disqualified from the championship at the START of the season. That's just stupid. Everyone bitches and moans about the poll system, but no one wants to go to an objective system. The fact of the matter is that everyone hates opinions - unless they agree with them.
That's called hypocrisy.

You make a strong point especially with the Oklahoma/Baylor argument. I wonder if anyone has asked this question and what excuse the committee would give. You see stuff like this in the polls all the time but you would think that a group of people placing the teams would see this and discuss why or how this happened and fix it.
Is that what they do or are the only really deciding the top 4 -6 ?

Baylor/OU will be settled on the field anyways in 2 weeks.
If Baylor beats them and Texas they’ll be where they need to be. I’ll be shocked if they do, they have a lot of very close wins over pretty shitty teams

SOR: Oklahoma 15 | Baylor 5
SP+: Oklahoma 4 | Baylor 15
FPI: Oklahoma 7 | Baylor 21
Avg: Oklahoma 9 | Baylor 14
Nov-16: Oklahoma vs Baylor (FPI: OU 75%)
B12 CG: Oklahoma vs Baylor (rematch?)
How much are you gonna bet Baylor beats OU?
