or can he get 1 more year to develop his QB even with 4 losses (5 if the Rebs or Hawgs sneak up on them)

I could see him in trouble if we are not competitive in our remaining 3 big games, if we lost respectably he'll prob get a pass

I think 5 losses will be a tough pill. If he loses the big 4 games this year, it is hard to fault him for losing to 4 top 10 teams and he will survive.

He has to win all the others to stay alive though. Tennessee sat bad for him from last year and he can't have that shithead moment again.

He better not base his future employment status on beating LSU because he’s not beating LSU. There is no way in hell that Auburn wins in Death Valley with a freshman Quarterback.

Since there is no way in hell, I imagine you’ve already wagered your trailer on the game.

First Gus must beat the FLAGSHIP!

To board the Flagship without his best running back, Gus will need the

NIGHCAT!

“Nigh takes the snap, spins left, fakes to Gatewood, Nix orbit motion, Nigh fakes to Bo, Nigh looks for Schwartz on a bubble, pump fakes, Nigh scrambles left. Airs it our for Williams. Seth’s got it for a 3 yard gain.

Gus is never going to do well enough to get off the hot seat, but never bad enough to get fired.

Auburn’s basically stuck in no man’s land with him.

His buyout is down to $35m if im reading his contract right, and half would be payable immediately with the other half paid out in four annual installments of 4.375m.

It's alot, but doable for Auburn at this point, so I think 8-4 gets him canned, especially if some other hotshit coach is on the market.

Eta- as another said, if those four losses are respectable and the recruiting class is shaping up top ten, he could survive it.

It would be a whole lot more affordable to wait another year to fire him.

Which one, the 4-wheeler trailer, boat trailer or travel trailer that’s at my camp? Oh, I forgot the utility trailer that the four wheeler trailer took the place of and I use now around the yard.

$35m is a lot to payout for an 8-4 season. If he loses to Arkansas and/or Ole Miss then it may be a different story, but I don't see Auburn shelling out that kind of money for losing to the four best teams in the conference and no one else.

8-4 won’t get him fired with that buyout.

And Auburn has probably the toughest schedule in the country. Oregon OOC, UF and UGA from the East. Even Tulane is a pretty good opponent.

You aren't.

The remaining value of his contract is indeed $35M, but his buyout is 75% of that remaining value, so he would be owed $26,625,000. Still outrageous, but not the amount it would have been if we had been foolish enough to guarantee 100% of his remaining salary.

Nobody's that short-sighted.

In all seriousness, he shouldn’t get fired for 8-4 or better. Freshman QB and ridiculously difficult schedule.

But waiting another year only saves them $7m. That's basically chump change. The fact only half has to be paid out immediately and they could get boosters to offset alot of that, I think it's entirely possible they can him at 8-4.

SECN revenue is like $100m a school per year, or something ridiculous like that, plus their own revenue, it's really not going to break them.

The gus malzahn experiment has run its course. The whole reason they hired him was because he was supposedly the secret ingredient to the 2010 NC. Nevermind that chiz d was awesome and Cam was awesome... it was gus that would lead them to the promised land, they said.
