He's intelligent, but at the same time he loses respect for that by being so condesceding and downright insulting to people. If he's like that irl, I'd hate to be stuck being around him, such as being a co-worker.

For the record, most of my condescension comes after another person does it to me first, just like in this thread. Saint struck first:

quote:

You seem to be flabbergasted quite often. You might want to get that checked out.

But no one likes to recognize that. I'm always the bad guy. It's fine, and I deserve whatever I receive, but many here ignore the things folks say to me.

I've also said I don't do that in IRL.

Your tone is quite condescending more often than not and appears to be intended to provoke others into arguments and trading insults. Saying you were flabergasted is one of many examples of that. In that respect you struck first, and you typically do. You're correct that you've earned what you get from others on this board. You seem obsessed with making a big provacative condescending splash with your thoughts and opinions and possessed by the attitude that anyone who doesn't agree with you is an idiot. I highly doubt your claims that your personality here is very different than it is irl. I agree with TideSaint's advice. It just might benefit you to have a shrink examine your post history.

Lol. I’m sure you and I would be best buds IRL.

I tend to agree that he’s probably too big at the moment but he’s been on campus almost eight months now, right? And do we actually know what his weight was when he got on campus?

Well, Surge, here I was thinking you and I were friendly posters in this website, not adversaries. I was wrong, though. Nonetheless, thank you for speaking your mind and clearing things up. I always like to know where I stand.

Your concern for my mental health is duly noted. I'm touched.

I don't consider you or anyone else on this board an adversary. In fact, I think you're a very intelligent guy who could be one of the best posters on this board -- if you'd just drop the condescending tone and insults. You are your own worst enemy (adversary) on this board.

Who's a truer friend, one who only tells you what he thinks you like to hear, or one who's willing to say what he thinks you need to hear?

I'll tell you what I'll do. I'll take your advice to heart and work on avoided unwarranted condescension. That's a good area of improvement. Secondly, I'll endeavor to limit my insults only to those who insult me first. I think that's fair.

However, when a person has a particularly atrocious opinion, one not based in fact at all and patently ridiculous, I'm certainly going to be condescending if it strikes me to do so. I'm not defending it as correct, only saying I'll do it simply because it's what I want to do. I'll also continue to come down hard on those folks who belittle or insult our players personally, or engage in any fandom I consider to be particularly egregious.

I'm not saying these words as if you, or anyone else, was waiting for them, as no one was - I'm simply putting it out there.

I can certainly be a less irritating poster at times. However, there are times when my irritation is very much on purpose and will not be changing.

Roll Tide.

Repaying your kind words in kind, I want to compliment you Data on your transformation. A year or 2 ago, you were a mess of a poster - by your own admission. Just over-the-top worrying about the littlest of things and way out of balance.

And now you've become a voice of reason and one of our more well-balanced posters. I commend you and think it deserves recognition. Kudos, my friend.

I'm not sure what you mean.

My whole point was that his physical development has been normal and logical. He was listed at 261 (or 264) on recruiting websites as a HS senior, enrolled at Bama in January and was reported to be 284 pounds as an 18-year-old (maybe 17-year-old) early enrollee, and now weighs a reported 294. I think all of this is ordinary and not noteworthy.

And so, I'm happy to discuss it with you, but you'd have to clarify what you mean by your above quote.

Per a link of mine earlier in this thread, he reported to Bama on January 15th, and his weight was reported in Early February by Charlie Potter to be 284.

Look Saint, I like you and I appreciate all you bring to this board

Thanks.

quote:

but I think you are just completely and utterly wrong here.

Well that's where you fricked up.

quote:

Speaking from personal experience, I put on about 30 pounds in the summer between my junior and senior year of high school. I was still growing, lifting weights heavy 5 days a week, and loading creatine.

Congrats on hitting your growth spurt. 95% of us experience one while we're in high school.

quote:

Sure, I had probably 5 pounds of bad weight around my stomach, but I had had that since the 3rd grade.

Well that's the issue here. Eboigbe didn't have bad weight around his stomach his Senior year. He does now. As I said, he put on too much weight too quickly.

quote:

And then I went and made all-state my senior year

Again, congrats. What position did you play and what classification did you play in?

quote:

was as explosive as I had ever been.

Imagine how much more explosive you would have been if you didn't have a spare tire sitting around your stomach.

quote:

And regarding Justin Egboibe, he's likely still 18 years old, and many 18 year old kids his size are not finished growing.

He hasn't grown an inch since last year. He's just gotten fat.

quote:

Secondly, these kids want to start fall camp over their playing weight, as they sill slim down as part of the rigors of fall camp.

Good. He needs it.

However, this train of thought is lunacy. Guys don't drop weight during Fall Camp anymore. Two a-days are gone. Time on the field has been drastically reduced over the last 15 years. You should know this.

quote:

Additionally, if Egboigbe is being groomed to play 3-tech End, then that position is basically a tackle anyway, and the added girth is necessary.

He's replacing LaBryan Ray on the field at the moment. Ray weighed 272 pounds coming out of high school. His current weight after 3 years in the program is 291 pounds. Unless they just want Eboigbe to be a run stuffer, your statement makes no sense.

quote:

Furthermore, the 6-month timeline is your timeline. There is no evidence that Egboigbe weight 261 or 264 6 months ago. What we know is that this is his listed weight on recruiting sites. Well, what is the date of the number? If it's from the beginning of his senior year, which is likely, that that is his weight 11 or 12 months ago. Hell, he enrolled on Bama's campus in January, and as therefore been in our S&C program for longer than 6 months!

So he's been there 8 months instead of 6. That's the part you want to bold? Ok. I'll respond with this:

Gaining 33 pounds in 8 months isn't good, either.

quote:

My point is this thread is pathetic worry-warting over an issue you are poorly informed about.

Look, son. I lift and run 5/6 times a week and physical fitness is part of my job description. I can bench twice my weight and run like a deer. If anyone is un-informed about what it takes to properly put on weight over a period of time, it's you. But, as you said, you've been a fat arse since the 3rd grade. I wouldn't expect you to understand.

frick. I gotta break this up over two posts.

And even if he did put on 33 ounds of mixed muscle and fat, he did it at the behest of the coaches - coaches who are experts in their respective fields.

Well, again, you're wrong. Here's some examples of our "experts" not quite getting it right:

Alabama notes: Tua 'a lot healthier' after offseason weight loss

Why wasn't Tua in better shape last year?

Alabama’s defense got better by getting lighter

quote:

“In the Clemson game last year, we saw how gassed we got on the defensive line simply because they were going fast, and we weren’t running good,” said 6-foot-3, 305-pound Alabama defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson. “So during the summer, we were like, if you can’t run good at this weight, you have to lose it. Point blank. You have to lose it so you can maintain your explosiveness.

“They want you to be able to be conditioned throughout the game. If you’re in the game for a 10-play drive, you don’t want to get tired and gassed out.”

Hmm. Interesting.

Alabama Football: Bo Scarbrough’s weight loss shows need for change

quote:

Michael Casagrande of AL.com reported Scarbrough’s epiphany, when Scarbrough discussed a teammate friendly teasing him about making any athletic-looking catches or dropping passes: “‘I was like, if I lose a little weight, then I can catch it,’ Scarbrough said. So he did. About 15 pounds came off his 6-foot-2 frame in an effort that will remain secret.”

Scarbrough continued by saying, “My body feels more clean […] It feels more stable so I can move the way I want to move and I’m able to do some of the things I couldn’t do.”

A fricking random conversation with a teammate spurred his weight loss. Where were the experts?

Why Alabama LB Reuben Foster lost significant weight after last season

quote:

A different Foster will take the field Sept. 3 against USC. Since last season closed, Foster said he trimmed 15 pounds to 225 while adding muscle. He was down to 235 in spring practice before losing another five over the summer.

"I'm more explosive," he said. "It might sound strange, 225 at linebacker but it feels great. Knees not hurting, back not hurting, it feels great."

quote:

The difference in Alabama's defense was described in one word.

"Faster," he said. "Most of us are losing weight, just, you know, sideline to sideline and the speed of the game."

Who would have thought?

Alabama D-line hasn’t exactly called in Jenny Craig, but to meet this unusual goal maybe they should

quote:

Jonathan Allen-

“I feel like we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to lose weight. We, as a unit, sat down and looked at what we could do better. That’s one of the things we came up with, to try and be a little lighter to be able to move around and still bring that physical effort to the ball.”

Players making this decision on their own, not "experts."

quote:

Jarran Reed-

“I [want to] play faster and stay in the game longer. The game is changing a lot. Weight is a real big issue. … At a smaller weight, it’s really better because you’re faster, you’re lighter, you’re more mobile.”

And the fricking pièce de résistance:

quote:

Nick Saban-

“We do everything you can do to make the guy the most efficient player at his position,” coach Nick Saban said. “Everybody has the right combination of all those things to be able to develop at his position. Then you look at a guy’s performance relative to how much he weighs. When a guy weighs 307 pounds and he can move and sustain and rush the passer and all those things, and when he weighs 318 pounds he can’t do it, it’s not rocket science.

“Now, the player may not want to weigh 307 pounds. But if he wants to be a good player and he wants to be successful, that’s the best choice he can make.”

“We have always [put an emphasis on] that,” Saban said. “We just haven’t gotten the players to respond to it like I think this group has responded to it, and all the guys have responded to it except two.”

quote:

Additionally, he did it at a time in his life when it's logical due to growth and at a position where it's needed.

There is nothing logical about gaining 33 pounds in 8 months. Nothing.

And these "experts" you want to give an award to apparently aren't paying much attention to the incoming Freshman. Hell, Saban himself didn't even know Antoino Alfano had put on as much weight as he did during the Spring.

Five-star Alabama early enrollee Antonio Alfano adjusting to college life

quote:

“I’ve been here for like a month and I’ve already gained 17 pounds just from working out and eating, all that stuff,” said Alfano, who was listed at 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds by multiple recruiting services before arriving at Alabama.

Not that Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban has been around much to notice of course.

"Well we recruited him as a defensive end, that's all I know about him. I didn't even know he gained 17 pounds,” Saban said sharply when asked about Alfano’s comment at his annual National Signing Day news conference later Wednesday afternoon. “I guess I ought to have a staff meeting with (the media) so I can get information on what's happening within our program. But I appreciate it."

quote:

Also, your body-building links have less than nothing to do with playing defensive tackle in football.

Well neither does your personal story about hitting a growth spurt, but hey, you do you.

quote:

All in all, this thread is filled with bad information from you and your opinion should never have existed.

Well, you see, my opinion is more grounded in reality and science than that bullshite you spit out so I'd appreciate it if you left the discussion to the people who actually know what the frick they are talking about.

K, Princess?

Good talk.
