This is one of the things I hate about our strength and conditioning program.

We make these guys way too big. Eboigbe shouldn't be over 275 pounds by now.

Have you ever gained 33 pounds in less than 6 months?

He was explosive playing at 260. It takes the body time to acclimate to a drastic weight jump like that.

It's fine if you're doing quickness & agility drills, cardio, proper nutrition, etc., along with weight lifting. What I don't like to see is when some of our OL and DL add bad weight (fat) that has no benefit and actually slows them down and hurts their stamina. DJ Dale has done a great job of getting rid of bad weight he had. Sopsher is one who clearly needs to do that.

Absolutely. But there's no way he put on 33 pounds in 6 months by doing all of this. He'd be more apt to weigh around 275 pounds.

I expect him to burn off a good 10-15 pounds of that during this fall camp leading up to a steady weight of around 280.
Our DE's are expected to be run stoppers first with our Stand up LBers doing most of the pass rush..
When we do ask one of OLB to put there hands on the ground one of the DE's moves to DT.
I hated the weight Davis put on as we asked him to play inside more last year.
Hopefully we wont see a buggs playing on one leg and not getting even sub out.
Hence what Clemson o-limen said at all star game.
" we noticed that Bama never subs the D-linemen even when they are exhausted.
I understand the if they would have stopped more of the third downs.
But reality is they were not and we did not sub enough in any of the Clemson games.
So lets see what he weighs come the duke game.

Remember Q Williams came in as a DE, added weight and ended up becoming a monster at DT at around 300 lbs. Some guys can carry the weight and not lose quickness. Others like R. Davis, do lose explosiveness with weight. By all accounts, Justin is playing phenomenally well at 290 or whatever he is. I'm guessing August practice in the heat will get him down to 285 pretty quickly. That seems like a great weight to play at considering you have to take on 320 pound tackles.

I hope that we don't see Buggs anywhere on the field this fall.

Yea, you're correct. Our coaches historically do not do a good job of rotating in younger guys on the DL during important times of the game. We put them all in during mop up but we need to use more players earlier in the games.

Buggs has move on to the NFL as I was just making reference to we rather had left him playing hurt.
Then sub one of the younger D-linmen..

Yeah, he didn't put on 33lbs that quickly without losing something in terms of explosiveness and endurance. I get that guys need to be strong and have a body that can take a beating, but a lightspeed 33lb gain probably isn't the best path there.

Early on under Saban we did that (rotate defensive lineman) but we had a few years we were lacking depth a bit and we got out of the habit. It killed us against Clemson every time. We absolutely need to play younger players starting in game one. Yes they are going to make mistakes, the goal is not to be the best football team in America in game one. you don't get anything for that, it's to be the best team in America by time you get to the final third of the season.

You're spot on. I hope we give these younger guys more reps earlier in games.
I know Anoma might have been a head case but sitting on the sideline watching the guys on the field barely able to move had to drive him and others crazy.

You're right. I don't care what anyone says, you cannot put on that much weight in such a short period of time in a healthy way and be as productive.

To be fair, he was clearly somewhere between 264-294 during the spring - and that was 5 months ago.

So I'd guess he was 264 in high school, 275-280 in April and 294 in August. I have no idea how that will effect him, but he didn't throw on 30 pounds from June-August I don't think.

Sopsher and bad weight. Sopsher isn't fat at all. He has a fat, baby face. Now, Sopsher's conditioning is another matter.

The good thing about Anoma was that if he made a tackle, we knew about it, because he got a 15 yard celebration penalty too. And if the coaches yelled at him, he would yell back at the coaches. Those 2nd string def players were just bad when they got in the game last year. The other team would score in about 6 plays when they got in.
