The good thing about Anoma was that if he made a tackle, we knew about it, because he got a 15 yard celebration penalty too. And if the coaches yelled at him, he would yell back at the coaches. Those 2nd string def players were just bad when they got in the game last year. The other team would score in about 6 plays when they got in.

I don't think anyone is saying we should rotate the entire 2nd string defense in. But on the DL--especially--keeping those big bodies fresh for a long season and 4 long quarters each game is imperative. And we had guys like Ray and Mathis last year (heck Barmore who was reportedly killing our OL on the scout team) who all sat on the bench while our 3 guys got worn down. It just wasn't smart, and Clemson made us pay in a big way.

But there's no way he put on 33 pounds in 6 months by doing all of this.

33 pounds in 6 months is nothing, particularly for a human being this size lifting hard and preparing for the season. I'm flabbergasted this thread even exists.

You're right. Gaining 33 pounds in 6 months is nothing if you're sitting on your fat arse eating junk food all day.

Gaining that amount of weight that fast when you are an explosive athlete is not good. Take a look at the pictures from his Senior year to now. Lifting hard does not equal putting on 30 pounds in that amount of time.

You seem to be flabbergasted quite often. You might want to get that checked out.

Look Saint, I like you and I appreciate all you bring to this board, but I think you are just completely and utterly wrong here.

Speaking from personal experience, I put on about 30 pounds in the summer between my junior and senior year of high school. I was still growing, lifting weights heavy 5 days a week, and loading creatine. Sure, I had probably 5 pounds of bad weight around my stomach, but I had had that since the 3rd grade. And then I went and made all-state my senior year and was as explosive as I had ever been.

And regarding Justin Egboibe, he's likely still 18 years old, and many 18 year old kids his size are not finished growing. And so likely part if his increase in mass would have happened as a result of growth.

Secondly, these kids want to start fall camp over their playing weight, as they sill slim down as part of the rigors of fall camp.

Thirdly, Force = Mass x Acceleration, and so many times, certain positions benefit from increased mass, even if it's fat. If a player is as explosive/strong with 10 extra pounds of fat, then that player just increased his force, both in moving other people as well as preventing himself from being moved.

Additionally, if Egboigbe is being groomed to play 3-tech End, then that position is basically a tackle anyway, and the added girth is necessary.

Furthermore, the 6-month timeline is your timeline. There is no evidence that Egboigbe weight 261 or 264 6 months ago. What we know is that this is his listed weight on recruiting sites. Well, what is the date of the number? If it's from the beginning of his senior year, which is likely, that that is his weight 11 or 12 months ago. Hell, he enrolled on Bama's campus in January, and as therefore been in our S&C program for longer than 6 months!

My point is this thread is pathetic worry-warting over an issue you are poorly informed about. And even if he did put on 33 ounds of mixed muscle and fat, he did it at the behest of the coaches - coaches who are experts in their respective fields. Additionally, he did it at a time in his life when it's logical due to growth and at a position where it's needed.

Also, your body-building links have less than nothing to do with playing defensive tackle in football.

All in all, this thread is filled with bad information from you and your opinion should never have existed.

LINK

The above link reports the measurables for Alabama's early enrollees, and is dated February of this year. Egboigbe's weight is listed as 284 pounds.

Maybe you should stick to topics you are informed about, because you didn't know anything about this topic. Maybe sit down, take a couple plays off.

Wut?

He absolutely played at roughly 260-265 his senior year. He bulked up pre-spring (to what extent we don't know because it isn't released, but clearly bigger than senior year weight, had to be at least 275-285) and his current listed weight is 294.

Pretty clear over a 12 month period he put on 30-35 lbs, but over the last 6 months probably not more than 15-20. Not sure what the issue with pointing that out was, especially considering the point of this thread was damn Eboigbe looks terrifying.

My sincerest apologies, George. I read the first part of this thread quickly and put Saint's first reply with your OP in my mind. I thought Saint was the OP. That's my bad.

I agree completely with you. Egboigbe looks terrifying. I disagree with the first reply where Saint called his weight increase a bad thing.

Again, my apologies for the mistake.

Ask and you shall receive (a minimum of 500 words of the lowest possible IQ nonsense presented in the most condescending tone he could muster).

We make these guys way too big. Eboigbe shouldn't be over 275 pounds by now.

Seriously, then people wonder why we lack speed on the line.

We keep blowing kids up and the ones who are big enough who are quick guys or speedsters won't get the burn in the moments that count.

I'll bite, friend. Please, for the sake of all, show me here, using the quote function, all these examples of me speaking unintelligently. Based on what you said, you ought to be able to find and quote thousands of unintelligent thoughts. Please, show us and back up your words. I'll need the quote as well as your evidence that what I said was unintelligent, or "low IQ".

I'll wait.
