It's bad when starting 2 true freshmen sounds more appealing than starting Daniel Wright

Difference is we knew those defenses could do the basic stuff like tackling. These guys sometimes look like dogs chasing their tails.

How many times are we going to hear this before we see change defensively. Get rid of the defensive coordinator, NOW!

Let's not freak out over one game. Everynow and then an offense will light up Bama's defense.
The difference being that formally it came from an otherwise sound and fundamental defense that was accustomed to shutting down offenses and did so. Those defenses seldom strayed far from their top ranking during the season.
These days, we're discussing the fundamental issues every week from a defense that is mid-tier in ranking during the season at it's best. And then we get one of these out of body experiences and it says we are very much a flawed team.

Ole Miss and Arkansas lit up that great Bama defense in 16. Ole Miss scored 43 and Arkansas scored 31.
Ole Miss and Clemson lit up that great Bama defense in 15. Ole Miss scored 43 and Clemson scored 40.
Even the 2011 Bama defense got lit up by Georgia Southern.
I'm not giving up hope just yet. The first two games showed some real promise, and Kiffin is an offensive guru who had a chip on his on his shoulder regarding Bama.
If we play relatively well against UGA, then I'll consider the possibility that the OM game was an anomaly.

I'm getting pretty tired of seeing the shite show from saturday night compared to the OM game in 16 where they got some of the flukiest plays I've ever seen and we turned the ball over 5 times.
We were just unlucky that night. This past saturday was a product of poor preparation by all and lack of desire by most.
Anyone that's played football at any level has somewhere along the way, and likely many times, been on the field with guys that don't really want to have to put their nose in there and make a tackle. They really hope someone else will do it. Well we have 2 or 3 of those guys on our starting defense right now. I don't think there was one on the roster in 2016.

You're thinking about 2015 I am pretty sure.

They had 522 yards of offense, and we only turned the ball over once.

I don't think anyone really disagrees with you on this.

Besides needing a new defensive coordinator, I still think it would be really great to have Bo Davis back coaching the defensive line. I know it’s Freddie Roach’s first year at Bama, but the defensive line has been putrid so far.

Our DL problem is our crappy 2-gap "mush rush" scheme. It should be totally eliminated. All 3 DLs should always be attacking through OL gaps to get penetration into the backfield.

Amen. I don't understand why we are doing it.

Which should clearly explain that Golding is trying to run Saban's defensive spread principles. We need fresh ideas as desperately as we need a new scheme.

Maybe they aren't talented enough to do it. Is that what we did in 2015 - 2018?

Amen.....I am and old guy and I am not smart enough to understand what Alabama is actually doing on defense that is supposed to defeat the offensive schemes. I understand that most of the Bama players were ranked high during recruiting but not many on defense are playing at that ranking. I do like #31 and his effort. He is a bull in the china shop guy at this point...a threat to both Bama and the teams we play.

Charlie Strong has extensive 3-3-5 DL attacking scheme acumen. I prayed we would utilize his expertise to help replace our worthless 2-gap "mush rush" scheme. I'm still praying for it.

Someone with knowledge, can you enlighten me ? Does the mush rush handicap our linebackers ? I see rb's and ends come across the middle, uncovered or a linebacker running 10 yards behind them, trying to catch up. Are the lb's looking to fill gaps, causing late reactions or just missed assignments ?
Posted on 10/13/20 at 11:46 am to bamapoet
If a TE is running free across the middle it has nothing to do with mush rush. A LB or safety depending on formation has coverage responsibility if he releases into a route . Sometimes TEs block or delay first and that is confusing sometimes for LBs but that really hasn’t been the case the last two games except maybe the goal line play

Probably been covered already, but what happened to Aaron Suttles on the JOX 3 man front show?
I haven't paid attention to that show for months
