LANK packages have arrived in Detroit for Gibbs and Branch, respectively. Peyton Woodyard made a comment on the tweet and the company making the shirts said they'll be sending some to him too. Notice that Gibbs is rocking a Bama bracelet too

Yet our defense was worse last year by a significant degree.
By the eye test? Absolutely.
2023 FEI D: 9
2022 FEI D: 3
2023 PPD D: 19
2022 PPD D: 14
2023 YPP D: 21
2022 YPP D: 18
This isn't popular because it doesn't fit what I think we all see on the field and what we want to believe, but the advanced analytics all say we were better defensively last year.

I don’t give a shite, we’re better on defense and I couldn’t be happier that Pete is gone.

Stats may say a different story but there wasn't one crucial stop in the worst time of the game that I was confident we could get as a defense under golding. That has changed, we had crucial stop after crucial stop our entire season this year

Golding feasted against shitty teams which pumped up the numbers. Steele’s defenses are more consistent regardless of the competition
In addition Golding had a much more talented team
FBS teams with winning records:
2022 unit in 7 games gave up 397 ypg and 25.6 ppg
2023 so far in 8 games has given up 348 ypg and 20 ppg

rankings don't mean anything, especially since there were more good defenses this year than last.

All the data I quoted is adjusted for opponents quality.
I really hate having to defend Golding because I think he was too much of a white board guy, but in retrospect by the LSU game our DL was really beat up and average at best.
I think our DL is much better this year talent wise and unquestionably deeper.
I think our OLB group is much better coached this year and I would take the 2023 ILB group as well over the 2022 group even though they’ve been banged up all year. I do think the 2022 group had to deal with blockers getting into the second level to a degree previous groups hadn’t seen so they get criticized somewhat unfairly.
Secondary is also better in 2023 talent wise due to the emergence of Arnold and Caleb Downs being a freak even though I loved what Branch brought to the safeties last year.
Bottom line I’d take the 2023 defense talentwise all day over 2022 due to the DL and the emergence of Terrion Arnold.

Blowing up 4-5 3rd and shorts against UGA said the most to me. Georgia converts at least 75% of those if Golding was still the DC.

DE: Eboigbe (2023) *inj 2022
DT: Keenan (2023) close with Young
DT: Oatis (push)
Jack: Anderson (2022)
OLB: Turner (push)
ILB: Lawson (push)
ILB: Campbell/Marshall (2023) close with Henry T
CB: Koolaid (push)
CB: Arnold (2023)
FS: Branch (2022)
SS: Downs (2023)
Star: Moore (push)
Outside of Branch and Anderson I’m not sure where we were more talented last year defensively.
Id also argue most of the positions I have listed as a push I think were improved due to an extra year of experience for guys like Oatis and Lawson and injuries for Moore in 2022.
More importantly I think we have significantly more depth this year at DL (Smith/Payne/Latham) which to me is similar to looking at the QB position because if you have a great DL it improves all the other position groups on the field with them.

I'll take results over analytics!

Exactly! That and the fact that every player that struggled here is balling out in the NFL should tell you all you need to know. It wasn't the lack of players, it was the scheme. If I never see 1 D-lineman and 6 LBs again it'll be too soon. We attacked the ball this year for the first time since Pruitt left

Stats are what they are, but I rarely saw Goldings units step up in a big moment. I’ve seen this group do it multiple times.
