Head to head on the road?
I attended that game.
Nathan fumbled a punt if memory serves.

I enjoyed the camellia bowl.
Exciting game.

All the major bowls had interest. Now it's only like 2. Maybe even 1. The semis are usually trash.
No all the major bowls didnt have interest. It depended on the year. The Semis get fantastic rankings. This is a really dumb hill to die on

I think people are generally resistant to change... I still can't believe that some millennial parent will have to explain to their kid that, "even when I was a kid, we used to vote on who won a championship. Some years, people even shared it." That child is going to be bewildered it took 100 years for them to figure out a way to crown a champion, and still there was a split in 2003.
People always bitch and moan about the death of bowls, but, have you been to some of these bowls? Have you seen these teams/matchups?
Georgia looked absolutely disinterested in playing in the Sugar Bowl last year, and its the Sugar Bowl. The Gator Bowl, Music City Bowl, Outback Bowl, etc... have incredibly sparse attendance. Who cares if this goes away in favor of an 8-team playoff?
Wouldn't you as a college football fan like to think that with 2 losses, that a final run may still propel you to a national championship? Isn't that more enjoyable than crossing your fingers for friggin' Orlando in January?
The NCAA tournament is awesome. I'm sure there were issues with expansion from 16, to 24, to 32, to 64...etc... and no one complains when UMBC beat UVA as 16 seed.
Change is inevitable. I think we'd be better off doing away with the conference title games (outside of the SEC, it's not a big deal or well attended hardly anywhere else), and really give our conference almost an annual shot to get 2 teams in.
You think home and homes are fun? Make the first round of the playoffs on campus!
Imagine - it's December 20th. You pack up the wagon to go watch Ohio State travel to Alabama, or Oklahoma head to Athens, or maybe upstart Florida squeezes in as an 8-seed and heads up to Clemson Death Valley for a playoff game. The atmosphere would be electric.
Quit being averse to change. It's usually a good thing.

This.
It makes no sense to have a playoff in order to take the human element out of the equation, yet at the same time, have a selection process that is totally subjective and done by a committee
A playoff where a BCS process would pick the top 4 would be perfect

change simply for the sake of change and to make more money for the fatcats on the top of the ladder isn't good though. There is nothing wrong with a 4 team playoff, and "as a fan it could be more exciting to be able to lose sevearl games but still have a chance!" aint a good reason.
If at the end of our pretty short regular season plus CCG weekend you have 2 losses and didn't win your conference, why should you be able to call yourself a national champion?

I don't understand how the playoffs have anything to do with the other bowls not mattering. The reason nobody cares about the non-playoff bowls is because the good players don't play in them anymore.

So a sport that has over 130 teams is ruined by a 4 or 8 team playoff? Lol

Georgia fans were HOWLING about Oklahoma and ND getting in over them, WITH TWO losses.
Screw the title game weekend. Alabama in this century alone has proved, that ish doesn't matter.
As for what it would look in the first round (rankings taken from AP pool prior to start of 2018 post-season), Who wouldn't watch these 4 games?!
(1) Alabama vs. (8) Michigan, Tuscaloosa, Alabama
(2) Clemson vs. (7) UCF, Clemson, South Carolina
(3) Notre Dame vs. (6) Georgia South Bend, Indiana
(4) Oklahoma vs. (5) Ohio State Norman, Oklahoma
The only team in that set of schools with more than one loss heading into the post-season last year, was Georgia. Under this new system where you eliminate the conference championships, Georgia wouldn't lose to Alabama - and therefore, would only have one loss.
This wouldn't hurt the regular season in the least. It would likely encourage teams to play more big name opponents, as to strengthen their case as a one, maybe even two loss team at the very end.
Outside of the annual Alabama invitational presented by Dr. Pepper in the Benz every year, conference title games don't regularly sell out.
If you don't like the idea of playoff games, on campus, in December, in favor of: The tax slayer bowl, the playstation fiesta bowl, the Bad Boy mowers Gasparilla bowl, and all other corporate branded exhibition games of a kind... well, you're beyond saving.

USC and OU started the year 1 and 2 and both went undefeated and for the most part looked outstanding doing it. What collusion was at hand? It would look more suspect to bump one of them for au.
In retrospect, it's easy to say Auburn deserved the shot at USC over Oklahoma after OU was throttled by like five TDs, but no one could have known that at the time. As you said, they were #1 and 2 most of the year. Any time a certain number of undefeated teams remain at the end of the year, one will always have a claim to the "we should have been there" argument.

agree with all of this. 4 is perfect and it's really irritating that it's only a matter of time before we go to 8. That's going to really suck.
Yep. I mean for example this past season you would have to add UGA, OSU, and 2 of UCF/Washington/LSU/UF/Washington State. Does anyone really think any of those last few teams deserve a spot in the Playoff?*
*I know they would take the top 8 so that would mean that UCF and Michigan would be in, but I think if there was 8 spots then the rankings would have been arranged differently. It gets a little political after the top 4.
4 at most. Please.
I don't want CFB to be like the NFL. The NFL sucks.
If a team loses and early season game to a weak team and it knocks them out of the playoff eventually? Too bad. Don't lose to crappy teams. Every game should matter.

Disagree. I’m glad the Big Crock of shite era is over. 2007 Mizzou were railroaded.

Yeah, it gave us BYU as a national champion. Great stuff.

Agree, it's one of the reasons why CFB is so phenomenally great becuase the regular season is relatively small so every game (should) means somethign big.

don't even clarify with last few, UGA didn't deserve to be in either.

It was a very good win for them.
But, as I alluded to, Alabama was playing its third straight game against a Top 15 team. I personally believe the 1978 NC is rightfully split up between the two teams.

Bama should have in 1977 as well. And 1966.
I sort of like the debate regarding the old way.
