Sounds like your question isn’t whether Dabo is good but rather is he better than Saban.

Maybe so, but also a general question. Is a coach really that great if he needs the overall best QB to have success?

Along with Saban, Urban Meyer is a guy that won without necessarily having the best QB.

Yeah, again my point is that he doesn’t necessarily have the best players. He just happens to have the best QB.

Did you watch the national championship? I didn't know QB played defense

Bingo. The secret to Clemson's success has been defense. Venables absolutely anticipated everything Bama called. The Clemson D knew what Tua was going to do before Tua did.

Does Clemson win that game with Kyler Murray at QB?
I don’t think so.

Trevor Lawrence is that good

My point is that Saban has never had the best QB in the country, yet still won 6 titles.

Doesn't that just mean that saban is shitty at recruiting QBs?

Disagree. Murray would've put up enough points to win although the score might not have looked so bad. However, it was Clemson's D not their O that killed Bama.

Does Clemson win that game with Tua at QB? I think they do. We could've swapped QBs and Clemson would've still won...they had a better D and a better gameplan...

Tua was considered the best QB in the nation for most of last season...he was a consensus All-American...so saying Saban has never had the best QB in the nation is disingenuous...

If you read footballscoop.com they will tell you so. They absolutely love him & Clemson & you will never see a negative article from them about them while other schools take shots from them fairly often. They put out another positive one about them again today.
What I do know is that they recruit well.
I will always remember the quote from their asst basketball coach during the recent trial on tape. "It is a small town, a little out of the way you know. More or less said "We have to learn how to recruit like the football team does"

Some of the dumbest threads get started on this board. Yeah...he’s that good.

The down year you speak of he still won his conference and made the playoffs.

He’s the best going right now

When Saban retires, who do you think Alabama will go after? That should answer your question.

"Saban has NEVER had the best QB in the country"

Whatever happened to that Hawaiian kid he used to have?

Must have flamed out.

Sad.

Alabama had over 400 yards. They weren’t exactly shut down by some mastermind. They shot themselves in the foot a lot in the red zone. Alabama only had 40 fewer total yards. It was just a weird game

Unfortunately, Tua did flame out a little bit. At full health, I think he’s right up there with Lawrence, and I think he’s a more accurate passer. Tua’s biggest problems are that he’s injury-prone, and his mental game is lacking somewhat. Hopefully his mental game will improve this offseason. Tua’s obviously the best QB Saban’s ever had. Hopefully he can put it all together and have a healthy Junior year.

You may have a point here. However, there’s no question that Trevor was the best QB on the field that day

I’m not saying he’s a bad coach at all, but if he doesn’t have the best QB in cfb, does he ever win a championship?

A QB is extremely important yes. But they don’t win titles on their own. That’s why neither Brees nor Manning ever won a national title.

Everyone knows Matt Flynn was just an absolute FREAK at QB.

Bonus points for getting to the championship game starting Jordon Jefferson at QB.
