Lol. You typed all that to show we’re 5th. You may want to rework that formula.

Yeah, not THIRD like someone else originally kept stating. Not even remotely close to third from a success standpoint.

Why? That's where Mizzou's program would rank. Obviously Kentucky is #1.

Arkansas and Florida are obviously #2 and #3... and their order depends on whether you reward overall program success and longevity (Arkansas) or give extra bonus points for winning a second National Title (Florida). Either way, they are close.

With four Final 4's, LSU is obviously #4.

After that, you've got Mizzou, Alabama, and Tennessee which are all very close. In fact, a deep run this year by Tennessee could catapult them up to a clear #5 by the end of this season.

fyi adding a team that comes 5th in the conference would be considered a pretty good addition.

Your thread makes it sound like mizzou is 11th or 12th, at that point your thread and discussion makes sense.

Not a terrible measure. Like to see how these totals add up since Missouri joined the SEC.

I remember when Mizzou basketball commanded more attention amongst the fanbase than football. I grew up as an enormous Mizzou basketball fan, football was always second to it. It's been a rough ride since 2013, filled with historic lows for the program. However, our program's downfall started long before Kim Anderson steered the plane into the mountain.

In my humble opinion, Mizzou basketball's downfall began with the construction of Mizzou (Paige Sports) Arena in 2004. Mizzou's administration made a decision then to jettison its fanbase in lieu of appeasing donors for a few extra theoretical dollars per year. Specifically, Mizzou Arena's design included significant lower level seating and box seating designated for donors only. Even the student section got shoved behind one of the baselines- this is why our arena typically looks empty on tv. And sure, Mizzou Arena was a significant upgrade over our old arena in terms of aesthetics and accommodations - but I hate it. It is a soulless pit of financial compromise, it represents everything that is wrong with college sports today. It was built by a billionaire for other billionaires, the fans be damned.

Mizzou's old venue, the Hearnes Center (which is still rotting behind our football stadium) did not cater to our rarely-attending donors. You could get excellent tickets for less than 20 bucks, and the atmosphere was electric. I remember how loud that arena was 20 years ago to this day Attending Mizzou games at Hearnes as a child with my grandfather is what made me a lifelong Tiger fan. By comparison, games at Mizzou Arena feel like a wake to pay respect to our now dead program. However, a venue change alone didn't kill us - our coaches certainly helped.

The coachinng plague started in 2011 when Mike Anderson left us for Arkansas. Before you Hogs get too excited about my tears, it was less about losing Anderson (who at least provided stability while at Mizzou's helm), but more about the disastrous coaching hires that followed him. First, we had Frank Haith, who put a good product on the court, but left us in a panic to head to Tulsa after just a couple seasons, right before NCAA violations caught up with him. I believe he made a comment about how Tulsa was an upgrade over Mizzou. frick you, Frank.

After Haith, things actually got worse for our program. After being scorned by our two previous coaches, who bailed on us for "greener" pastures, our Administration decided to hire a company man - a true son who would never leave. So we hired Barney Fife. Kim Anderson, as most of you know, coached his way through the three most hapless seasons in Mizzou basketball history. Anderson was the nail in the coffin. John Wooden himself would struggle to turn this program into a winner after Kim Anderson's tenure. But again, we can't just blame a venue change or bad coaches. The culture around Mizzou has changed for the worse with respect to basketball.

That culture change started in about 2004 when Gary Pinkel and Brad Smith started turning our football program into a winner for the first time since the early 80s. Suddenly, Mizzou fans had a good reason to head to Faurot Field instead of Mizzou Arena. (On a lighter note, this event also paved the way for Mizzou to the SEC).

This culture issue worsened when Mizzou left the Big 12 for the SEC. While the SEC has been a great move for school as a whole, it has been a disaster for basketball. Gone is our storied rivalry with kU, and gone are our competitive series against Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and K-State. Now we play (and lose to) Mississippi State and Georgia. Our fans don't give a shite about those basketball match ups and never will.

Finally, there is a lot of talk on this board about the Mizzou protests and "SJWU", and the impact on our football program, but it impacted the whole university (basketball too). Our fanbase pretends like nothing is wrong and things are as they always were, but the reality is that those protests, and Mizzou's poor handling of them, harmed our national reputation - hoops included.

So I guess what I am saying is laugh away at our sad showing since the move to the SEC, but the truth is our program's decline has been a long time coming. I really hope we can turn it around, but I am starting to doubt it.

Which is why everyone thought Mizzou would be. But we're 7 years and and Mizzou has nothing to show for.... dead last in the league.

That's the problem. Since joining the league you are #14

ah so mizzou cant bounce back? Got it.

Mizzou also had awful luck when assembling a team that could have been top 3-5 in the sec the past two years. Im not worried, are you worried or something?

Blues music. Great athletes. William Faulkner. We might be low on crackers with accounting degrees, but we add a ton to American culture.

Are you a fricking toddler? I get that you want attention but you don’t have to make up random words with VOL in them. It didn’t work out in basketball. I thought you would learn your lesson
