I think only Mizzou fans thought that. They are the only ones who ever though Mizzou basketball was elite

In their defense, they have 26 NCAA Tournament appearances... behind only Kentucky and Arkansas in the SEC. They also have four Elite Eight appearances which is pretty strong.
But for some reason, their past program success has not transferred over to the SEC.

we're third best all time in the SEC, and just one spot behind florida for 2nd best.

No way. Arky and Florida battle it out for #2 and anyone else is way behind. LSU is probably ahead of Mizzou as well all-time.

Bad timing too. hell our last year in the B12 we were top 10 all year and as high as 2nd(?). The timing off haith/and the sec then with kim anderson, it was a nightmare.

Hmmm, do I listen to BHMKyle or the AP? Cant decide, let me sleep on it.

Missouri was living off the success of Kansas.
They were never really worth a damn. But since Kansas was a blueblood and Missouri was their little brother, it elevated their status.
Sad. But true.

I don't think anyone expected that, but I knew they would be better in football than most expected, especially in the East.

Quite literally one of the most irrelevant ways to measure success in basketball, I mean that list has Vandy, Tennessee, and Alabama ahead of us, surely you dont think they have had better programs than LSU from a success standpoint?
Tennessee hasn't even been to a final four, ever. And 1 elite 8

The results don't factor in national championships because the AP doesn't release a poll after the NCAA Tournament. Still, the teams at the top are a who's who of college basketball royalty.

Mizzou fans never claimed being an elite team. We have been good. And after two of the worst hires in Missouri history and one of the worst hires in NCAA history, we’ve really just laid an absolute egg as a program.
We hired a D2 coach that no other D1 program would’ve interviewed. And he proceeded to run our program into the ground in an unparalleled fashion. We have had two NBA talents out for the first two seasons CM has been here. And our 2nd best player will have missed over half the conference season. So we’ve been both unlucky and bad.
It will turn around or it won’t. We’re probably two away from doing anything other than annoying teams.

No one listens to the AP when it comes to basketball. It has virtually no meaning. All that matters in basketball is making the NCAA Tournament and how deep you go once you get there.
Here's how I would rank programs:
NCAA Tournament R68 Appearance- 1 point
NCAA Tournament R32 Appearance- 2 points
NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 App.- 4 points
NCAA Tournament Elite 8 App.- 6 points
NCAA Touranment Final 4 App.- 10 points
NCAA Tournament Final App.- 12 points
NCAA Tournament Championship- 20 points
... you get a max of 20 points for each season, so you get the point total = to the furthest you make it into the Tournament.
The results:
1. Kentucky- 1,011 points (This is insane)
2. Arkansas- 282 points
3. Florida- 267 points
4. LSU- 157 points
5. Missouri- 98 points
6. Alabama- 82 points
7. Tennessee- 81 points
8. Texas A&M- 54 points
9. Vanderbilt- 51 points
10. S. Carolina- 49 points
11. Mississippi St.- 58 points
12. Auburn- 47 points
13. Georgia- 38 points
14. Ole Miss- 18 points
