Why Didn't UGA Get Trevor Lawrence

Apparently Fields was Smart's second choice, but he couldn't get his first (Lawrence) because Richt's staff didn't love him and didn't aggressively pursue him. Smart comes in and immediately calls Lawrence trying to correct this huge error, but the dye was cast and Clemson already had the momentum.

Now they did get the 3rd highest rated QB in recruiting history and Chaney screwed it up. Because of that we can't exactly know what would have happened if TL had come home, but this is a clear example of why Kirby > Richt.

Combine that with Richt's staff not believing Deshaun Watson was good enough to play at UGA and that's enough to give a UGA fan grey hairs.

Are Georgia fans really blaming Chaney, not Kirby, for Fields leaving lmfao?

If it were up to Chaney, Fields wouldn’t have played at all, you think he was the one promising him game time his freshman year?

Dude, we haven't won a national title in football since 1980 and Kirby Smart isn't Mark Richt. Can we stop pandering these toolsheds and move onto something else.

Mark Richt 32-8

Kirby Smart 32-10

Richt at this point is better than Kirby.

Kirby was named the coach between Trevor’s sophomore and junior year of highschool.

Clemson beat out UGA because of their offense and Deshaun Watson. Same reason that Haselwood didn’t want to go to UGA.

Kirby seem to be following Richt with his no. Use of Fields. Dabo changed to Lawrence early in the year because he knew it was the best move long term. Kirby was to scared to make that move . Even if Lawrence went to UGA he would be transferring like Fields because Kirby would have stuck with Fromm. Dabo thinks championship or best and Kirby seems to be scared of busting .

Wouldn’t “coming home” have been Lawrence going to Tennessee?

Richt could not manage a roster to save himself. We played one year with like 65 scholly players. Literally could not put all the parts together at one time and ran an offense that required high level QB arm talent.

Kirby is an Infinity level ninja at roster management and is improving the roster every day.

Dream on, Kirby will get it done soon enough and you frickers last title will be ancient...

Complete hilarity that this thread was treated just like an "Auburn sucks" troll thread. I guess this forum doesn't want serious discussion.

The reality is this is real discussion and he's not lying. The reason y'all's favorite coach, Mark Richt got fired has zip to do with 2001-2003 and more to do with whiffing on generational talents and not building enough on either side on the LOS. As we now know today, if they had given Richt more of a chance, he would have swung and whiffed on all of the legit good Georgia QBs from Watson to Lawrence with what all transpired.

The only thing that is in serious question is would Eason have been able to save Richt again if he isn't canned really with the quick trigger like Murray did back in 2011? That's very TBD, and it won't be answered until the next football season.

Meh. Their results are roughly the same. Actually, Richt probably is slightly better at this point due to that shitty fake kick and the fact that Kirby can’t hold on to his best coaches.
