Big 10 Wants CFP Selection Protocol Reviewed
It's no surprise that as certain teams and conferences start getting left out of the playoffs, attempts to adjust format is going to occur in order to gain access.
I just say don't lose by 4 touchdowns to Purdue and you are in.

We have the CFP because the B1G and PAC got their panties in a wad when they have not been relevant for the past several decades. They pushed for the CCG's as entre to the CFP then Penn State won and they let in Ohio State instead.

In the same number of games that Notre Dame played Ohio State was also undefeated with 50 points more over common opponents and a conference title
The questions are valid

There needs to be a set criteria, and the "eye test" should not be one of them.
Alabama will always have the eye test advantage because of inherent bias. It's the worst point ever made.
The entire selection process is pretty pathetic, IMO.

I think we should investigate why Ohio State got in the 2016 playoff, then were shut out 31-0.

The B10 and Pac just want their chance to lose to the SEC like everyone else.

The committee should just send Jim Delany the Purdue Ohio State tape to review

This.
If Alabama had lost to Vandy by 28, we wouldn't get in either.
Seriously, there were three undefeateds in P5 (Alabama, Clemson, ND). That left two 1-loss teams. One lost to a ranked, 9 win Texas team that they were able to defeat later on - and only by 3 points. The other lost to FREAKIN' PURDUE by 4 TDs.

After the 2014 playoff, the B1G made two playoffs.
They were blasted apart in those two playoffs in the first round.
Imagine if the "can't beat Purdue" version of Ohio State played Alabama or Clemson in the first round.

I think go back to the BCS format and let the computer pick the top 4. The BCS (after they ironed out the wrinkles) got it right. Use that and get the best 4.
I think the committee has done a good job, but when people are involved there will always be questions about objectivity.

You could always use the transitive property.
Ohio State beat Maryland by 1
Maryland beat t.u. by 5
Ohio State is 6 points better than t.u.
Oklahoma lost to t.u. by 3
Oklahoma beat t.u. by 12
Oklahoma is 9 points better than t.u.

They have a point. Only a few fan bases are good with the eye test. As someone who has never had CFB in my favorite sport category; having a committee to choose your playoff teams is hilarious. Put all the value in the regular season, and make conference championship's a requirement. Have two play in games to capture the 4 best teams outside of those. BUT you have to play your way in. You can't get a pass like Bama in 17 amd get a month to heal while UGA and other teams are forced to fight it out.

The ~7th best SEC team outperformed Ohio State by 77 points against Purdue. I know that common opponents aren't the end all be all of comparing teams and Auburn probably wouldn't beat Ohio State by 77 points, but still.

This is not the point. It's not just about 2018. Georgia got boat raced by Auburn (40-17) in November then beat Auburn 28-7 in December.
Georgia was ahead of Alabama in the CFP rankings after beating Auburn. Why? Because they won their conference/Division?
Criteria needs to be set, not on a conveyor line ready to be picked up when you want to use it.

Stop. It doesn't work like this

The arguement isnt if they get in over Clemson or Alabama
The arguement is that its obvious they should have gotten in over a Notre Dame with a less impressive best 12 games and ability to avoid playing Clemson for their pseudo conference title

Maybe don’t do the following in one season:
1. Be down 2 scores in the 4th against Penn State
2. Be in a one score 4th Quarter game against 6-6 TCU
3. Be in a 1 score 4th Quarter game against 6-6 Minnesota
4. Go to Overtime with 5-7 Maryland
5. Play 8-5 Northwestern in your conference championship
6. Almost lose at home to 4-8 Nebraska
7. Get beat by 6-6 Purdue by 30

No, that is wrong. two teams from the same conference do not belong in a 4 team playoff. The regular season is, admittedly, a playoff in and of itself. If Alabama didn't earn the right to play Georgia in the SECCG in 2017, they shouldn't have made the playoffs.
At some point, results on the field need to matter. You can't non objectively say that one team deserves to get in over another if they haven't squared off 1 on 1. Conference championships have to matter.
