Yes, really.

It's called The Granddaddy of Them All partially because it's the oldest bowl game. That wouldn't be the case if we pretended it all started in 1946.

having a committee to choose your playoff teams is hilarious.

It's the same "beauty contest" it has always been. There are just fewer voters now.

They need to have a rock solid set of criteria. The "eye test" BS be damned.

Not really. Before 46' it was an open bowl, after WWII it was the B1G vs PAC.

Yeah, because the PAC got tired of getting beat by southern teams.

So we beat Purdue by 7 touchdowns. I guess we’d be 77 point favorites over OSU. Give or take

They pushed for the CCG's as entre to the CFP then Penn State won and they let in Ohio State instead.

In a shocking turn of events, one loss turned out to be better than two.

I don't know why it confuses so many people. Play a P5 schedule and lose as few or fewer games as the top team in the other four conferences. One P5 is always going to be left out. If you won your conference and lost two games, all the underrated and one loss teams are likely getting priority. It's why CFB is great - the whole season actually fricking matters. You don't get a shot at a playoff with five or six losses because everyone else in your conference sucked that year, but you were the best of the trash so here's your prize.

We had that. It was called the BCS. People thought a more subjective system, including an emphasis on the “eye test”, would be better. And here were are 5 years later, people possibly more dissatisfied than before
