Figured maybe we'd do something a little different here to thaw the cold war.

How many of you are direct descendants of the original groups from Acadia during the Great Expulsion? How about Haiti or at least Acadians/Frenchmen who made a pit stop there on their way to Louisiana? Listening to a podcast about the Haitian Revolution right now and the crossovers to the other French New World areas are interesting.

Fascinating culture and history.

I can, through my maternal grandmother...and her lineage is pretty interesting...

full blooded Spanish (Galician, Minorcan, and Canary Islander) on her father's side, then add in the Llull(a) part of the family...Pepe (the duellist) is either my great-great-great grandfather or my 4x great uncle...

her mother's side is a mixture of Creole (the original definition of the French that came straight from France) and Cajun...my Cajun ancestors are Duhons and Melancons...

so if i really want to screw with the bigot controllers minds, i can claim Hispanic descent!!!!

That's awesome, did the Spanish side come over from Spain directly to settle?

Very cool.

Just about anyone whose family stretches back to the pre-Civil War days in the South has at least a Warren level of Indian blood.

Last name Didier. I’ve never fully looked into it, but from what I have been told my dads side is French and moms side German.

Not I. My family descended from England/Scottland on both my father's side and my mother's side. Our family surnames are about as English/Scottish as they get. My mother did grow up in Louisiana but doesn't have any French lineage (my father and I grew up in Memphis).

Very few in Louisiana can. That's why this narrative that LSU fans were excited about the Orgeron hire because he talks like us was so ridiculous.

FWIW I'm Italian and German from my mother's side and English and Scottish from my father's side.

I can through three of my grandparents. My fourth grandparent's family came over in the late 1800s from Germany.

A huge portion were quarantined in ships off the coast of new York before being sent back to france.

My family is old German and old French.

Half came to the US into Michigan, the other half from the islands. None knew the other families.

Prior to coming from France, a lot operated in North Africa and the Middle East.

ETA: the Germans were typically German, except for being fairly risk averse. The French were a let it all hang out crew.
