It was 2015, and and UGA had a bye week leading up to the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail party. The Dawgs were in control of their destiny in the SEC East. Georgia had been steamrolling lesser opponents, winning by an average of 32 points a game against teams like South Carolina, Southern, and Vanderbilt. But two weeks prior, Greyson Lambert, had struggled to put points up on the board against Missouri, a team UGA should have beat.

From the Dawg Rant:

quote:

It’s really quite simple... whether you agree or disagree... Bauta is the better talent. When Richt said and I quote after the game: “Yeah, maybe Bauta would have helped if given the opportunity” (Whatever the frick that means) sounds like he had a deal with the Lambert family... but w/e... Bauta CAN SAVE this run if giving the opportunity. We’re gonna get better... this loss wasn’t a surprise to me... but most are fricking falling off a cliff. -Kneehigh

quote:

Hate it for Lambert, because I actually like him and think he's represented the team well and had some really good moments, but today made it perfectly clear: he's not the guy. He has horrible pocket presence, decision-making and downfield accuracy. It hasn't gotten even a little bit better than he was in his first career start, and that shows me a mentally limited player with a pitifully low ceiling.

Maybe if we let Bauta have the reins it would be a complete disaster. I don't know, but I've reached a point of frustration with this team that makes me ready to just put him in and let's find out. If Bauta sucks and can't lead the offense, then so be it, but at least we'll know and won't feel like we're being cheated out of potentially being a better offensive football team. -Branchdawg

quote:

I haven't seen anything out of Mark Richt in fourteen seasons to indicate that he will reflect on his mistakes and make changes. He is arrogant to a fault. Much of his strength as a coach comes from that fact, but it is also the source of some of his fatal flaws.

I fear that we will roll into Jax with Lambert starting, players rotating constantly, and "the plan being no plan".

I'm not sure what happens after that, but we are flirting with disaster. -NCDawg52

quote:

Honestly, what has Lambert shown anyone? The guy is a disaster in the pocket. I can only imagine how many rush yards Bauta would have had today with the protection Lambert had. -HTDawg

quote:

The Bauta train wants to win. The Lambert train wants to be good old UGA.
-Crowknowsbest

On the eve of Georgia’s annual rivalry showdown with the No. 11-ranked Gators in Jacksonville, the Bulldogs’ brain trust made the decision to start Bauta. It didn’t go well. After holding his own in the early portion of that game, Bauta was victimized by a couple of drops and then began to press after the Bulldogs fell behind in the first half. He finished with a shockingly bad stat line: 15-of-34 passing for 154 yards and four interceptions. Georgia lost 27-3.

We were in control of our destiny going into the WLOCP, but pressure got to Richt to go with the mobile QB with very little game experience outside of a few RPO's here and there. Had Georgia beat Florida, we would have returned to the SEC Championship Game and had a shot at the playoffs. Instead, Richt caved, and we imploded because the fans were calling for the backup qb, every fan's best friend when things turn south.

The same mouth breathers who wanted Bauta then are clamoring for Fields now. We don't know why Fields hadn't been given a shot this season, and we had no idea why Bauta hadn't been given a shot when Lambert was struggling. After the Florida game last time, we found out pretty quickly why Bauta hadn't played, and it cost us a shot at the SEC Championship.

But yea, let's go with Fields.

Yeah, let's call Justin Fields the next Faton Bauta.

I'll give Mark Richt credit for one thing. He at least had the guts to try something different. It didn't work, but at least he tried it. We weren't going to win with Lambert, so why not. That's more than you can say for Smart.

I don't like the comparison. I also know that our gameplan in 2015 made sense. We put in a running QB and didn't run AT ALL. Not a recipe for success. We ran the exact same playbook.

Nicely done.

Obviously Fields and Bauta aren’t the same players but you captured the essence of the irrational fans.

We were averaging 7 yards a carry between Holyfield and Swift... and decided to go away from the run when the game was well in reach. There's no telling what Chaney will do.

Another way to look at it is the Notre Dame situation. They were undefeated and Brian Kelly made a QB change anyways. It was risky and could have backfired but they have become a significantly more dangerous team because of it.

Kelly saw an opportunity to make his team better and he knew there was a chance that Wimbush would transfer. He made a good business decision.

Richt tried something different? He put in a running QB and had him dropping back to pass all game. It was the stupidest of all the stupid things I've seen since Ray Goff.
Richt had checked out and told his agent to call Miami during that bye week. He obviously didn't care what happened in that game.

So you acknowledge that Fromm is essentially Greyson Lambert?

Nice try a-hole. I'm not that stupid.

At least put forth some actual effort and pull the posts from that year. In addition to being wrong, you're also lazy.

Faton Bauta was a mid-to-low 3-Star option QB who had NO playing experience. He had an extremely weak arm and struggled with accuracy. The board was happy because, clearly, a competent coaching staff would take a new QB with no experience and okay to his strengths. Everyone figured we’d see a pistol/shotgun heavy offense that would spread the defense out and add a different dimension to a struggling offense. What did we get? A pro-style, I-formation offense the relied on a QB being able to push the ball down the field with an option QB at the helm.

These two situations are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT and your premise is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read on this board. Congratulations, that is an impressive feat.

I am willing to go with what Kirby thinks is best. He has earned that.

I understand the people wanting Fields in. I mean he is an immensely talented player. I also get that the people wanting change want it because they think that is what will make us better.

It does seem as if the same ones screaming for Bauta is now screaming for Fields. After the Florida game (Well after, like in the summer, I believe) people were criticizing Richt for the stupid decision he made, and nobody owned up to saying they wanted Bauta to play in that game. Nobody.

I am still willing to allow the guy that is known as the head coach make that decision. the guy that watches them in practice. The guy that watches all the film.

It is as legitimate as comparing Fromm to Hutson Mason.

And yes, Fromm was compared to Hutson Mason in one of these threads, and if he is comparing Fields to Bauta then he was comparing Fromm to mason, wasn't he?
