Did Trevor Lawrence progress faster than Justin Fields?

I know we give each other hell about Fromm vs Fields. Some say Fields has more talent but shouldn’t start due to lack of experience. Others say Fields brings another element to the game by being a mobile QB as well as a good passer and we should utilize that IF Fromm is struggling.

Kelly Bryant was benched for Trevor Lawrence who as a freshmen came in and threw for 4 TDs vs tech yesterday and looks to have beaten out Kelly Bryant for the starting job.

Trevor lacks experience but that didn’t seem to matter.

Thoughts?

Kelly Bryant is a far worse QB than Jake Fromm. If he were our starter, I'd want Fields over him as well.

No, not at all, but Clemson is smart to let him grow faster than we are. Smart has blown 2 good opportunities for letting fields play on the road in the sec.

I don’t think we know how much Fields has progressed because he hasn’t had to show us. He has had limited snaps in the two real games we have played and he was given fairly easy throws to make against the cupcakes. While he looked good doing what he’s been asked to do, he hasn’t had an injury (Fromm/Eason) or a struggle (Tua/Hurts or Bryant/Lawrence) force him to prove his worth yet.

He could be a monster when given a chance but he hasn’t had that chance yet.

I swear to god we’ve gotten absolutely ridiculous when it comes to QBs. We’d start Fields and everyone would bitch wishing we did more to keep Stetson Bennett

Lawrence and Fields would both look like freshman versus a serious defense that could get to them.

I will say Clemson is very PC with that tall girl playing QB...

The amount of people who just straight up do not want to see Fields to get time on the field is amazing to me.

Although I do start to wonder if he's just that bad, because if he was as good as his performance in his limited action would lead you to think, then you have to believe that there would have been moments in two first halfs where your starter was playing extremely poorly that he would've gotten a chance that was more than one goal-line rushing attempt. He must be a very bad practice player, it's the only real explanation.

It's crazy how some football people think.

When we played South Carolina Gary Danielson was talking about Kirby's QB options. Danielson said that if Fields is called on and plays much better than Fromm, then Kirby has a problem.

A QB playing bad is a problem. A QB playing well is a benefit.

Fromm and Field are both talented winners. I wouldn't be afraid to play either. I wouldn't be afraid to play both. I would worry about having all the eggs in one basket.

My thought is Bryant is not as talented as Fromm. There is a difference in making a move to an experienced player because the player in front of him is struggling.

Fromm is very capable and Bryant is more of a liability. At this stage of development Bryant is not that much better than Lawrence.

At this stage of development Fromm is better than Fields. That might change, but right now Fields wants to pull the ball down and run when pressured.

Dabo is an offensive guy. Makes sense for Lawrence to progress quicker. Also Lawrence might have just been better in high school

Lawrence came into college as a better, more polished passer. He played for a HS that actually developed him as a player. Fromm was ready to run an offense out of HS, as well, he just doesn’t have the arm talent that Lawrence has. Lawrence may very well end up being one of the best QBs to ever play CFB when it’s all said and done.

Of course he did. Fields practiced right alongside Fromm for a year and never impressed Smart and Chaney enough to get much PT. They evaluate these players every day, we just see them on Sats. Eason/Fromm proved that the coaching staff is willing to give anyone a shot that steps up. Fields didn't, and I'm not sure he will at TOSU.

Hint: if Georgia's defense had held bama to 16 in either game, we would've won.
