is it time to start looking thru DII schools for Punter?

It worked for LSU and their PK... Bama needs to look for a Punter who can average 38 yds .. dElONG is really folded in the tough game... not that he was all that in the 3 previous games... (Secret is our ST coach was a punter in college wasnt he?) Is Mack Wilson still the back up punter? Do we have a walk on we could use

I'm hoping now that we have a special teams coach, we'll recruit the right players. Delong has been mediocre. Hopefully, he'll improve.

I thought he had a couple nice ones but yes he is a liability right now. Need to find a better option or at least someone to provide competition.

Not to be nasty, but DeShort has really poor/insecure body language. Dude looks at his feet a lot.

Well, we did give a scholly to the guy punting for the Packers right now and ended up with the best punter in school history for four seasons.
I think this guy coming in on the heels of Scott only highlights the issue more.

Forget other schools, just have open tryouts among the students.
Really weird how someone can become a D1 punter at an SEC school and be that bad. Might as well just go Rugby style the rest of the way.

This guy can't punt the ball 50 yards period....and he now way in hell did he do that in high school. Somebody shite the bed on this dude just like the did on the punter from Thomasville, Al several years back.

I mean, you can see results from camps he went to as like a sophomore/junior in high school where he averaged over 50 yards per attempt. That tells me he has the ability, but mentally he just is off right now. He's probably having to speed things up faster than he ever has before in terms of getoff time. I mean he is a true freshman on a big stage. Hopefully he'll grow through this. As others have noted he looks scared to death out there.

DeLong (DeShort) doesnt even make the top 50 with his average... sad.
Anyone know how to call JK and see if he can call DeLong and see what is going on in his head? Kid needs and intervention... at this point it would be nice to have someone who could get it 40 yds with just decent hang time. then work on getting better.

I was watching some of those from directly behind him. Ball snapped from between center of field and the right hash...from the position of the protectors and the movement after the snap, the plan on those, including the short one out of bounds, seemed to be to try and pin the return guy against the sideline. Not sure why...the aTm return guy isn't among the conference leaders. Delong may not have executed so well, but I don't think distance was the issue.

I mean, he had like a 12-yard punt at one point and shanked another. Distance is definitely an issue. Maybe he's worrying too much about directional punting and that's why he's struggling to boom it.
I don't know what the half rugby thing was. However, if he can't figure it out in the next three or four games I'd be fine with going all out on the rugby kick.

I'd be fine with just conventional punts. He was marginally better with those. Not sure who thought the running rugby punts would be a good idea. I hope we forget that shite.

I am not an expert on the physics of punting, but I don't understand what is so complex about just taking the ball and kicking the shite out of it. I know placement is important when you punt from around midfield, but other than that......just take the snap and kick the ball dude.

I'm guessing we're a consistently bad ULL game away from trying out somebody else on the roster just to get consistent low 40 yarders.
