Why do they suck so much hyena arse?
I mean, they’ve got an excellent history. You would think Georgia Tech would be the better program in the state of Georgia, but they are pure, corn-filled orangutans shite.
Any theories on this phenomenon?

From what I have heard their current administration does not put much emphasis on athletics. I think they are too busy being an exchange student school to worry much about football.

We’re allergic to championships

I hate when administrations let their jealousy of athletic success get in the way of their decisions. Reminds me of that character in the movie Necessary Roughness play by Larry Miller.

Not....they left the SEC to become and independent like those Fighting Irish. They listened to all those useless F liberals in Atlanta and they shet the bed in doing so.
They have since decided to become the 4th Military Academy as far as football. JMO but I believe Mike Leach could have success at GT.
Did you know?
AU 8 SEC rings
GT 5 SEC rings.....they stopped playing in the SEC in 1964

Most of their fan base consists of exchange students that grew up watching cricket and badminton.

GT fan here, and I'll try to explain some of the factors that hold Tech back. Just a warning, this is going to be long:
1. GT Academics - One of the biggest gripes of Tech fans is that the academic rigors are too much for most of the athletes that go to SEC schools. Whereas most other schools have programs like Sport & Entertainment Management, Sociology, etc., the "jock major" at Tech is Business Administration, which is still a top 30 program in the country. Also, every major at GT requires 2 physics classes and 2 calculus classes. That's a hard sell for most elite athletes that just want to play football for 3 years and move on to the NFL.
2. Triple Option Offense - Like I stated in the first point, GT has a significant disadvantage when it comes to recruiting, especially in Georgia. The result is that Tech usually takes good athletes that lack the size to play at SEC schools. Since the players are usually on the smaller, quicker side, the TO is a great way to make up for the talent gap against superior teams. Yes, Tech tend to struggle mightily against good D-lines, but who doesn't? And don't forget that Tech actually beat UGA in Athens in 2016 and it 2-2 over the past 4 years. The offense is uncommon and unique, and I think it actually fits GT perfectly even if it's harder to recruit blue-chip players.
3. Atlanta - UGA, Auburn, Clemson, and other SEC schools dominate this city. It really is a melting pot of football allegiances and Tech struggles to keep up, mainly due to disinterest from the student body and young alumni. Add in the fact that GT only has about 15,000 undergrads and you've got a recipe for lack of interest (and money). Lot of Tech students/grads are international or, quite frankly, too consumed with academics to really care about football. Hell, Paul Johnson had a "Learn Football" camp for international students. Anyone ever hear of that at any other ACC or SEC school?
4. Facilities - GT has had an indoor practice facility for years, but it also has the oldest FBS stadium in the country, and the constraints of being in the middle of Atlanta prevent the stadium from being further expanded or substantially remodeled. That being said, a new capital campaign has been started to update the Edge Center in the northeast corner of the stadium (badly needed) and locker room improvements are FINALLY happening.
THANKFULLY, we have a new AD that absolutely gets it and is putting us back on the right track: Todd Stansbury (who actually played football with my dad in the 80's at GT). He's finally back in Atlanta after he had huge success in his last job at UCF. He has already:
1. Sealed the Adidas deal
2. Settled on one true Tech Gold with a unique font to help branding
3. Launched several capital campaigns specifically for recruiting staff
Tl;dr: GT has inherent barriers to recruiting elite athletes, but the new AD is focused on helping the program return to national relevance through recruiting initiatives, marketing improvements, and facility upgrades. Tech will also never be on the level of UGA, Auburn, USC, etc.

That was long but a good read.
Thanks.
Still, with Georgia Tech’s history and recruiting area, a little more focus on athletics would help the program quite a bit. Tech can have good academics and get athletics the same time. It sounds like you had an academic jack arse running everything, and the running was into the ground.

GTCock, you provided some good points.
I think the bottom line is GT fans don't care enough to be better, or they don't believe they can be a national title contender. They have the resources and location to consistently be a top 20 program and compete for a national championship.
Paul Johnson is a symptom of that larger problem. He is a great football coach, but he is not going to recruit top athletes. GT could easily add a more football friendly major to keep athletes locked in.
They are capable of recruiting top level athletes. Look at some of the players they had in the early 2000s... guys like Calvin Johnson, Tashard Choice, Demaryius Thomas, Morgan Burnett, and Michael Johnson... these were all NFL guys. Chan Gailey was not as good at X's and O's as Paul Johnson, but his teams were much more talented and better overall.
All it would take for GT to rise from the ashes would be an administration committed to competing with the best and the right young coach. VT hit a homerun in hiring Fuente... if GT did the same and they got serious about competing, they would be dangerous.

I agree 100%. If you talk to Tech fans about what is holding back the athletic program, at least 9 out of 10 will say the academic administration. Almost everyone agrees that more emphasis can be put on academics without sacrificing the "prestige" of a GT degree, like adding majors that don't require 2 calculus classes and 2 physics classes and courses that are more appealing to elite athletes.

The academics administration jack asses are terrible business people. Let’s be honest. Higher education is big business. To attract quality students, you not only need great academics, but you need great visibility. Athletics get you visibility.
Academic minded idiots who do not understand business, have no business running major institutions with high-level athletic programs.
Georgia tech probably needs to fire everybody in the academic administration get rid of them. I would immediately.

1. Paul Johnson. His offense does not attract elite players. He is also a lazy recruiter. His initial success came before all of his opponents had the triple option figured out. Now they all practice against it regularly.
2. The academics part is overblown by GT fans, but there is something to it. But even without creating a jock major, they could still be alot better than they are now by simply getting a new coach.
ETA- I'm the rare UGA fan that actually likes Tech and want to see them do well, so long as it isn't at the expense of UGA.
ETA2- A couple years ago, ATL radio host Chuck Oliver suggested PJ put in a 3rd and Long personnel package, which is GT's achilles heel. Grab a pass-happy QB from the MAC and say "Hey, you want a degree from Georgia Tech?" and he only practices five plays, all day long. 8-10 yd pass plays.

GT has more "athlete" degrees than Business Administration.
But a business degree gives better opportunities than History or English.
The issues aren't academic.
They are the administration. Giving Johnson contract extensions with buyouts every 3 years kills the budget opportunities to look elsewhere (especially considering the buyouts paid to basketball coaches)

Correct. Tech fans (all seven of them) want to believe that, but Tech recruits the same athletes that Georgia recruits. A running back from Georgia recently transferred to Tech to get more playing time. He wasn't some physics major, nor was he the smartest player on Georgia's team. Tech made accommodations for him like they do all athletes.
The problem is that Tech has no fan base. No one is alive to remember any of their claimed national championships other than their shared title in 1990. And they haven't done squat since.
