Quit blaming Jeff Long for Bielema’s shite strength and conditioning program and stubborn favoritism of players with his lost of identity and philosophy.

Most of what you said is valid, but Morris has emphasized hes gonna utilize the tight ends a lot. They had 2 TDs for the 1st team in the spring game.
Okay. Well add all the TEs to figures, and it doesn’t really impact the overall metrics. Arkansas is still desperately far from where it needs to be.

No argument from me, but any team in the nation would be in close the same shape if...
1. They had a Petrinoesque wreck of defining nature.
2. They had a Smile interm for a season.
3. They had a CBB, Big 10 style of football philosophy change, with such a crappy coaching and strength and conditioning program.
4. A power struggle between the AD and PTB constantly.
5. a weak recruiting staff with such a lack of local talent.
It has been difficult as anything I have seen through the years for a non cheating program.
I do believe we can, and will be competitive again but I am not sure how long it will take, Recruiting is the defining equation at this time. If Morris is the O Guru we believe him to be, and he has the staff we seem to have, the facilities are definitely up to snuff... so... Recruiting must improve to fix the rest!

shiny hook, you couldn't help yourself.
and, it isn't completely incorrect and you know it. BOT, PTB, MAGA whatever... there were some problems between them and long for a while

Not really. He had free reign to do what he wanted and the POTB gave him plenty of rope to hang himself.

And you're the only D1 program in your state. It's a mystery

Our residents should hold themselves and their children to the same lofty standards that they claim to hold the Razorbacks too. It's really hard to recruit instate when the majority of your population are white trash fat asses.

It hurts recruiting when your instate talent is garbage.
It hurts recruiting when you are forced to play games off campus in the shittiest part of your state.
It hurts recruiting when the bulk of your fan base don't donate a dime.... never attend games.... barely graduate high school but feel the need to bitch and moan nonstop and treat your players like shite (see Brandon Allen).

Hate on Nutt all you want but the fact is Arkansas lived off of a lot of 3 star recruits with some 4's thrown in the mix. He got more out of those players to be honest. Lot of your 3 star guys became stars in the conference. I think evaluation and coaching kids up is as important as having a team ranked in recruiting 10 spots ahead with a bad coaching staff.

Negative, he had Dmac, Hillis, and Felix Jones in the same backfield and found a way to do less with more. He would coach up against superior competition and lose to freaking Vandy. Alll rahh, rah, no real coaching ability.

Agreed, Petrino did this well until he had harlot on a Harley gate. But can you imagine better recruits and great development together. We haven't had that since Loltz or Hatfield. IMHO of course!

Hog call hands down worst tradition in the SEC.
As soon as I see grown men doing spirit fingers and wearing pig noses I’m out. Just stop. It’s not cool, intimidating, neat, or interesting. It’s just weird. When you can out weird A&M, you’ve really outdone yourselves.
Arkansas - Ozarks = Mississippi Delta
Terrible.
I’ve seen 3rd world countries with better roads. I-40 has potholes that look like roadside bombs when off... and you better hope and pray your car makes it all the way to Little Rock.

You all don't have a very good pool of HS players.

Before I even read beyond this, I'm going to say... "If Dennis Franchione and Mike Sherman coached your team for a decade".
It doesn't matter what happened in the past. Figure it out. Bad coaching hires happen. Either act like they were anomalies or learn from them.
The thing that strikes me about Arkansas is that their fan base doesn't get it. They don't get it at all.
My initial response was to someone saying:
quote:
Bert was a solid hire when we got him. What went wrong? I honestly don't know. I mean we all see the results, but don't know why he wasn't successful here.
I then spent about an hour laying out why he wasn't successful at a fundamental level. Sure. It had to do with him, but he perpetuated systematic issues, and didn't address others. And then a different Arkansas fan saw a tiny flaw in the argument laid out, as if to undermine the larger premise... jumping to that immediately. Like a travel agent bitching about a misnamed beach his clients won't pay to go to.
Y'all don't get it. It's not just the man in charge. It's systemic. It will take time to fix. It will take deliberate action. Once you acknowledge that you have larger issues, which will take swallowing some pride, you might figure it out.
quote:
1. They had a Petrinoesque wreck of defining nature.
You had an interim year and then hired away someone from Wisconsin. He sucked. Why do Bielema's failures relate to Petrino? Spoiler Alert: they don't. Petrino didn't recruit at an elite level anyway. But let's live out a hypothetical where he did. Coaches frick up. O well. You have to adjust. If the next guy knows what to do... "Petrinoesque wrecks" mean absolutely nothing. Nothing.
quote:
2. They had a Smile interm for a season.
Luke Fickel coached Ohio State between Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer. This is the biggest bunch of bullshite ever. An interim means nothing. If Bielema knew how to win, John L. Smith would have been an after thought.
quote:
3. They had a CBB, Big 10 style of football philosophy change, with such a crappy coaching and strength and conditioning program.
"Strength and conditioning program" is such a message board whining mentality and is the perfect sign of someone looking for a convenient excuse. Under Bielema, the trap play of your offensive lineman, and how it wore on teams late in the season, is something that is widely credited Arkansas with wins. You had no problems in that area, in fact, you used strength and conditioning to your advantage. This point is complete nonsense.
quote:
4. A power struggle between the AD and PTB constantly.
Yeah. This stopped you from recruiting kids in DFW... why? Give me a break. An even bigger message board pussy excuse than the last.
quote:
5. a weak recruiting staff with such a lack of local talent.
So ridiculous. How many power programs mine the state of Oklahoma? None. In fact the state has two power programs, and Arkansas is 100 miles from Tulsa. Yet somehow they don't whine about the lack of local talent.
quote:
It has been difficult as anything I have seen through the years for a non cheating program.
How old are you? "non cheating program"... what does this even mean?
quote:
I do believe we can, and will be competitive again but I am not sure how long it will take
It will take someone in charge that doesn't view Arkansas football anywhere close to the way you do.
quote:
Recruiting is the defining equation at this time.
And it has been for a while. Arkansas hasn't won the SEC since they've joined. That's been a quarter century.
quote:
If Morris is the O Guru we believe him to be, and he has the staff we seem to have, the facilities are definitely up to snuff... so... Recruiting must improve to fix the rest!
It's not that simple, but yes. Recruiting must improve. Drastically. If you think a change in offensive philosophy is the only missing piece, you're beyond delusional.

You must not have paid attention to the last two years of Bielema if you think this is the case. Might have been true in 2014, but the only thing it did for us after that was make us the slowest team in the SEC and choke away big leads after halftime.
Just look how much quicker Alex Collins is now in the NFL than he was here. He was good, but not nearly as good as he was for the Ravens this past season.

Arkansas is the SEC's version of Nebraska: a once proud program that stumbled and has fallen on hard times. They are both finding it hard to regain their footing. Both are in the middle of nowhere, far from major metropolitan areas, both have weak in state talent and must recruit regionally to be successful and both are struggling with the fact that today's players don't know who the frick Frank Broyles or Tom Osborne were and don't care. We'll see if Scott Frost or Chad Morris can reverse the trend. If not, things look bleak for both programs.
