Starkel’s INT was a bad choice and he needs to knock that shite off. He put some balls right where they need to be and man he has talent.

Mond seemed to hold on to the ball too long for my tastes and had some throws that were well behind the intended target.

We have TEs!!!! We have TEs!!! The JUCO transfer is a stud.

Defense looked alright, but there were some serious missed tackles

Seems like our DL controlled the OL.

I expected that and would have been worried had they not. There were some blown coverages (Ausbon’s first big catch) that teh defense needs to iron out.

I’m rarely impressed, and I’m still not.

I just think starkel is who he is. He’ll throw a great ball, and then throw a great pick. We will not win the sec with mond or starkel....but maybe we’ll beat LSU with one of them

Since ESPN didn't air the entire game and Spectrum currently saying I don't have ESPN when I try to use WatchESPN across various apps for some stupid reason I can only review the first half and few minutes of the 3rd.

Offense - C-

Disjointed, sloppy, more big play than methodical. Way more WRs screens than I expected. Mond is still slow to go through projections and wildly inaccurate. Starkel still has issues staring down WRs and winding up his delivery. RBs were adequate but didn't seem any better than last year. Ausbon only WR that really stood out though there were not too many bad drops. Transfer TE was solid at catching and should at least have RSJ level impact w/blocking and short yardage situations. Line will need to be better but doesn't seem close to being set.

Defense - C+

Pretty much looked about the same as the last couple years where you'll get some really nice plays that make it seem like they could be really good followed by terrible blown coverages and back breaking missed tackles. D-line will be a strength, secondary will be boom or bust. It'll be another year of YES YES YES NOOOOOOO. Just have to hope there are a few less of those NOOOOOO failures.

Special teams - B+

LaCamera is LaCamera and should be fine. Punting won't be as good as years past but shouldn't screw us either. Do kickoffs even matter anymore? Johnny's fake kick six attempt was funny. Loved that Gillaspia didn't quit on the play.

Johnathan Paul Manziel - A+

#comebackszn train is still rolling. Seems to be in a genuinely good place mentally.

Halftime - A+

frick yea to more legends flag football games. Spencer Nealy still brings the heat. (thanks to bearkatag for linking it for us)

ESPN - F-

Don't fricking put the game on a channel that you'll have to cut it off 4 minutes into the 3rd to air baseball.

I think we need to start Mond and take our lumps. He is the best hope for the future.

Before this game, I would've said you're nuts. But he was the better of the two QBs yesterday. I wasn't impressed with either, but Mond has improved dramatically.

Mond has small islands of brilliance in a sea of mediocrity. Starkel has small islands of "WTF was that?!" is a sea of near-excellence.

I'd still go with Starkel unless Mond can gain some consistency. But, damn, Mond's legs are a threat, and he occasionally drops an absolute dime. His throw late in the game to about the ten was an absolute thing of beauty.

Trayveon looks like a different player. I think our defense is going to be good.

QB play is gonna be rough either way I think. Mond was weirdly effective but Starkel looks like an actual QB vs whatever Mond is which is a plus. Mond’s athleticism may be needed with how rough the OL looks.

I do think our defense is going to be much better

Has Jimbo used a two quarterback system in the past? Is there a chance that we wind up with a true two quarterbacks system?

My thought is that it’s going to be a long season.

Remember Sherman’s first season. It’s going to be like that, except hopefully no Arkansas State fiasco.

Switching from a half-assed made up offense like “The M-Zone by Noel Mazzone” or Fran’s shortside option attack designed to injure the quarterback to a pro style offense is ALWAYS going to be very difficult and it’s made doubly hard by having no solution at quarterback.

I hope our fanbase realizes this and lowers first year expectations waaaaay down. I don’t want to hear “overpaid for Jimbo!” from the idiots peanut gallery, though I know I will. A cloned hybrid of Vince Lombardi and Bear Bryant wouldn’t have a good season with the offensive transition we’re making, given the lukewarm mess we have at QB.

In his defense, Mond would have missed the receiver and the defender.

My favorite part of the day was JFF returning the missed field goal at the end of the half.

Reading this article about QB battles nationally has me thinking:

Is there any chance we get a transfer QB to compete for the job this season?

First of all the format was so much more fun this year. The fans were a lot more into it. It held my almost three year olds attention for a good 30 minutes

Ever since Saturday he's been going "farmer fight WHOOP"

At baseline Starkel is the better QB. He routinely puts the ball in the right spot and while he does have brain farts he could be a 65%+ completion guy.

However, at their respective bests Mond is a superior all around player. Mond will throw 7 straight ducks to nobody then will real off 3-4 of the best throws you'll see, and you add in his mobility that makes him superior IF he could be that player more consistently. At least for 2018 though Starkel probably gets the nod unless Mond makes more strides by August. It would not surprise me at all if Foster beats out both in 2019 as both are still extremely flawed players.

Our OL was better than I expect, our DL was worse. DE is an especially concerning area.

Overall we are a very slow team on both sides of the ball.

That isn't what I took from it at all. Our Offensive line was missing 3 starters (Martin, Sutherland and Lanfear) while the defensive line was split up between the starters.

Starting DL will be Clemons, Keke, Madubuike and Durham.

Depth is extremely lacking at DL right now with no backup ends with any experience.
