No surprise here! Phillip Fulmer used Beverly Davenport as his puppet to get his hands in the pot and get the guy HE wanted: LINK

Tennessee was THAT close to hiring Mike Leach and making college football THAT much more entertaining. Settled for some bald defensive coordinator. John Currie had his ace in hand, but Davenport was brainwashed by FAT PHIL!

Fulmer is such a snake in the grass. All the way back to Majors. Oh well - UT must deserve him.

Been discussed

Davenport sounds like a complete idiot who was more concerned about PR than finding a coach

Don't know about Fulmer being the culprit here...sounds
like she was way to concerned about PR and social media
"Backlash"than anything else,

They should have hired Leach. The game has passed Fulmer by. It's sad. Tennessee deserves better than Pruitt.

schiano you mean? Thank Goodness we stopped that. And as far as leach goes, i love him!! And would have been pumped to have him, but i also understand that leach would have never been right for tn, he wouldnt work in the sec.

Glad it played out the way it did. Leach would have been a great hire. Pruitt isn't ready for a HC gig at UT.

Good to see Fulmer step back into the chow line at Tennessee and stab folks in the back. Seems like the old days.

But they'll continue to suck for a long time.

Pruitt has the pedigree to be a good coach, no telling what his ceiling is, and he will recruit good players. Leach might have made a bigger splash but his ceiling is 8 wins on average, and when he leaves you're stuck with players that fit his Air Raid offense.

Leach would have been a good hire . Now they have risky hire that could suck and finish bringing the program down to the level of UK

I don't know how much safer Leach would have been, certainly more established and proven but Pruitt has to start somewhere

Leach would have pulled UT out of the abyss. They would have pulled in better talent than he’s ever had before and while he won’t be Saban or Meyer, he could beat anyone and wouldn’t be losing to bottom dwellers.

Yeah. Did Fulmer squash it because Leach may be a bigger name than him?

But didn't Butch Jones have more talent there than he'd ever had before too?
