From that UT mod's article on his CB pick:
quote:
Lupoi was not the only reason To'oto'o has been strongly considering Alabama. After his official visit last weekend, he said Lupoi is "a good man" and "a big factor" in his recruitment. But even if Lupoi left, To'oto'o said, "it's still Alabama."

His final official visit to Bama is the weekend of Jan. 25. Pruitt and Saban (and Golding) will also have in-home visits with To'oto'o and his family.

So basically these people are CB'ing Henry to the Vols just because Tosh has left, despite the fact that Henry has said that even if Tosh left "it's still Bama"?

Isn't that what every chicken little on this damn board did the second the Tosh news broke?

Interpret it to mean Bama is still Bama, not Bama in the lead

I enjoy reading this board so much and really appreciate all that you guys do. Now answer me this, in the 247 composite rankings Will R. is #1327. How in the hell is that? Isn't it likely he is really #1288 or #1401? What is the purpose of ranking after 400? As a huge BAMA fan, am I supposed to be excited by a signee going from #504 to #491? lol

Not really, it wasn’t until Boz posted that T was set gone. Of course, he never expanded on who T was. It could have been T’oto’o or Tosh. Either way, we all over reacted a little bit including me.

Kickers do not get rated highly, so they fall at the end of the 3 star spectrum.
The rankings after 400-500 or so are not accurate, but they do give a general idea of what level of a 3 star prospect a player is. A top 500 3 star in a non kicker/punter position has probably done camps and performed reasonably well whereas someone in the 1200's is a virtual unknown outside of their highlights.

Seems Javier Arenas was a 2 star? Love to have another JA to return kicks/punts

Jacobs was a 3 star. Players slip through the cracks every year for a variety of reasons. It happens far less frequently than it used to and wasting spots on lower star players that you haven't seen in your own camps or have extensive tape on is a quick way to fxck up your recruiting.

Mark Ingram was a 3 star when he committed to us and rated as an athlete. One site(can not remember which one) that had him rated as a RB he was in the 50s. Rivals even had M Dareus a 3 star.

I think Darues was a 3 star mainly because of grades. After hearing about the concerns with Pickens I guesss concerns with qualifying doesn’t matter anymore.

When Dareus was being recruited, we could sign more players every year. Things are tighter now

I think Boz (or his source) might've made a premature call on that or maybe Boz was being somewhat sarcastic or tongue-in-cheek. Tosh leaving certainly doesn't help, but I think Bama still has a real good chance of landing To'oto'o, especially if we hire Jimmy Lake as DC.

Brandon Huffman (247 Western region) is on site at the Polynesian Bowl and has posted three VIP interview articles:

Four-star LB Henry To'oto'o reacts to Tosh Lupoi's departure (247Sports-VIP)

Four-star LB Daniel Heimuli reacts to coaching moves (247Sports-VIP)

Four-star DE Khris Bogle talks about Tosh Lupoi, visit plans (247Sports-VIP)

Tosh has been the area/lead recruiter for To'oto'o and Heimuli, but Golding has also been involved, as he'd be their ILB position coach. Golding has contacted both of them about Tosh going the Browns. Both said they understand that coaches leave and aren't troubled about it. Both are still looking foward to their upcoming OVs to Bama and in-home visits from Golding and Saban.

However, Bogle said he is concerned about it. Pannunzio (his area/main recruiter) and Lupoi (his OLB position coach) recently visited him. Bogle said he has not yet been contacted by anyone from Alabama about Tosh's impending departure. He said he's now going to officially visit Florida and visit Miami again. I'm amazed Pannunzio had not contacted Bogle yet. Smh.

Eta: All three said they were promptly contacted by other schools recruiting them soon after the news broke that Lupoi is going to Cleveland.

Eta: Sunseri was Bogle's recruiter at UF.

With the Lake rumors it makes me wonder if the staff thinks they can get Heimuli more so than To'oto'o. I have a feeling Bogle may not stick because he seems like he's conflicted about leaving south Florida for Bama and if the staff hasn't contacted him about Tosh it makes me wonder if the staff thinks they can pull another defensive lineman.

I have a hard time believing that unless he is being told to hold off on calling.

I doubt Bama is cooling at all on wanting Bogle. It seems more likely that Pannunzio has simply dropped the ball. Regardless, he should've been called asap.
