And just like that, Jerry Montgomery was gone.
That’s the story Texas A&M fans likely will be telling about the person they thought would be their defensive line coach and associate head coach under new leader Jimbo Fisher.
Confused yet? Us, too.
On Wednesday, Montgomery was announced by Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy as the new Packers defensive line coach. The news comes just two weeks after the well-respected defensive line coach was reported to be a member of the Aggies coaching staff.
Montgomery had come to College Station from Green Bay, having spent the last three seasons as the “defensive front assistant” for the Packers. Prior to that, Montgomery worked as a defensive line coach at Oklahoma, Michigan and Wyoming.
The Packers’ official release on the news offered this bio on Montgomery alongside McCarthy’s new complete defensive staff for 2018:

Saban had his original OL coach bail on him in 2007, less than two weeks after he was hired. I think the TE coach left within a couple of months.

This also has happened to South Carolina.
Spurrier hired Brian VanGorder to be DC and then he ended up going to the Falcons like a week later.
OP is reaching.

So he chose to coach at the same position in the NFL. Upgrade?

Can't believe a coach would ditch the minor leagues for the pro's. Never happens.

Is this what we're all supposed to be nervous about??

It's happened to us as well, a couple of times if I recall.

Never let an off-season reference to Brian VanGorder go to waste.

So if I am reading correctly, he left Green Bay for A&M, then after two weeks left A&M to go back to Green Bay?

He had angled for the full DL job in Green Bay and apparently was told he wasn’t getting it. He left for our job, then GB came back and offered it to him. At least that’s the story we have been told who knows if that is true.

I would say this is exactly what happened. Seems like Green Bay was dragging their feet, so he took a promotion with Jimbo. Then Green Bay decided to offer him the job. Probably same money or maybe more, plus now he doesn't have to move his family. Who wouldn't stay in the Pros and coach in historic Lambeau Field?

Just a tip Aggies: you shouldn't hire people that don't want to be at your program....

And Texas A&M is exactly the same as Alabama football. Exactly.
