I keep saying it...

Ever wonder why we don't have these conversations with the NFL, NBA, Div 2 football, hockey, etc....

Yea, it's because they use conference champions. If they suck, then they won't win.

Current system will always be the same 10-12 P5 teams....

Exactly. Who gives a damn if a 7-5 Wisconsin or Bama wins their conference and gets in the playoff? INTELLIGENT people won't argue they didn't deserve to get in the playoffs because they would have EARNED it by winning their conference.

Also, it would encourage many more big OOC games because losing wouldn't be as devastating.

No, hell no

For all you bitchen fans. This is not the way to go.

Expand to 8. 5 P5 Chaps with 3 bought ins.
The last three are based on BCS rankings. Or pick another three. Don’t include people though.

I'm for 8 teams.

I would only be fine with eight if there are no automatic bids.

They will change in the next few years after enough teams get left out. 8 teams is about as far as it can go without it taking away from the regular season. It already takes away from the conference championship games at 4. 16 is too watered down and will have teams that aren't great or make for good games.

The NFL only has 32 total teams and has a 12 team playoff.

Div 1A. college football has 129 teams. an 8 team playoff would not water down the games.

Hell even the NFL's 12 team playoff might be a good model that would allow the UCF's of the world a spot every time

Stop the conference champs shite. U want a 7-5 Wiscy team in there? If we took conference champs and Bama went 7-5 but got in by winning the conference the FIRST, FIRST thing out of people's mouths would be we didn't deserve it. And don't try to bullshite and act like u wouldn't.

When is the last time we had a 7-5 conference champ?

The NFL has complete control over the # of divisions, the divisional alignment, the scheduling, etc.

They also have a player draft which theoretically(although not practically) is designed to ensure parity.

None of those systems work in college football

Correct. That is why this system is flawed the human element. They don't even have the correct directive. Best and not most deserving. Brings in even more subjective bias.

A playoff system is only valid when there are distinct, unquestionable methods in determining who makes them.

I know, I know. Hoops, but there are automatic bids and the sheer number of teams all but ensures nobody is getting left out that has a realistic chance of winning.

This ain't that. Until that element is removed the system will always be inherently flawed no matter the number of teams.

In that scenario, the conference championship games will mean much more because they will ALL be play-in games.

Please, look what happened this year in the SEC.Hell,99% of your fan base on here has completely dismissed UGA's championship because Bama made the playoffs.

If 4 more teams are added it'll give more teams that don't participate in a conference championship a shot.

8 or 16. It’s the only way I and half the teams will live long enough to make it.

Close. 4 sixteen conferences each with a final four to win the conference and then a final four for the NC. More teams have a chance but you must win your conference to advance.

16 is certainly too many. 8 really is probably too many imho. I think either keep it at four, or move to 6 - the five P5 conference champs and one wild card.

do you see it expanding any time soon?
I think we will see something happen in the near future. It would not surprise me to see something happen for the 2020 or 2021 season. Unless something has changed in the last week or so, the Cotton, Orange, Peach and Fiesta were not contracted to host the semifinals past the 2019 regular season. I think those contracts will be extended, but it wouldn't surprise me to see things tweaked a bit as those deals are finalized.

Ever been to college?

You do realize this would have teams practicing during exam week, right?

As long as university presidents try to maintain the perception that these guys are college students, this will never, ever, ever happen.

Have YOU ever been to college?

Exams are the lamest, most assinine excuse ever to avoid expanding the playoffs.

FCS, Div II and Div III all play playoff games through mid December. UWF's season ended on December 16.

And what about basketball, volleyball and gymnastics? They all compete THROUGHOUT all of December.

Are you going to try to argue that FBS football teams obviously are more concerned about academics than lower level football teams and other athletic teams at FBS schools? That would be a joke.

No...INTELLIGENT people would understand that all divisions and conferences aren't equal. If Jim Delaney wants to create an entire division of cupcakes, the rest of college football doesn't owe his conference shite. INTELLIGENT people...hell, anyone with two brain cells to rub together...understand this.

Laugh all you want, but it's a significant reason given by university presidents when asked why they don't want to expand.

But hell, maybe they've never been to college.

Sadly, you are correct that they have always used that excuse. I never thought about the fact that THEY (whoever they are) might not have attended college.
