No. My god, to play for the title let alone win it like he has, He is with Bryant.

As a Bama fan I'm going to say that yes it does but only a very little. It will be two successive years that he's been in the title game and lost back to back. Usually he comes back stronger and more focused after a loss.

He is better than the Bear already

Did any national selector at all award them the NC back then? Even if only one smaller one did, they have a legit claim and should claim it.

Only Emmert getting fired and all the payoff/cheating he has done to win anything at Bama coming out would take away the illusion of being GOAT he has created.

Fake championships are fake

If we lose, I don't think it hurts Saban's legacy. I do, however, think it elevates Kirby's legacy to that of Saban's greatest protege' and if he can sustain this success, the student who equals or perhaps even surpasses his master. And if I have to lose a natty, I can't think of anyone I'd rather lose it to than Dabo and Kirby. Both of them are great coaches and great people.

Back in 1950? No. It's based off of Jeff Sagarin's mathematical ranking system (which he didn't start until 1978). It IS listed in the records book.

Why is it anything here that ends with a question mark can almost always be answered with a NO?
Saban could get fricked on the 50 yard line by Kirby and a team of flying monkeys from the Salton Sea, and he'll still be College Football's GOAT Coach.
That might actually take *something* away from his legacy... but not his football coaching legacy...

Plus there is a lot more parity in the current age.

No, we have a claimed National Title the year we beat the AP's champ Oklahoma in the sugar bowl. It's a retroactive claimed title, but with it, it gives Bear 7 titles

No shame in losing a national title game. No way this tarnishes his legacy. Saban's legacy is set. No ONE has been able to do what he has done in the modern era. No One! This is one of his best coaching efforts win or lose if you ask me. What he's had to contend with injury wise? Dude is a coaching machine.

Saban’s legacy is etched in stone. Who else could make national champions out of Jacob Coker, McElroy, AJ McCarron and possibly Jalen Hurts? These aren’t exactly hall of fame quarterbacks. He basically has made the most important position on the field inconsequential at its most critical times. That is a hell of a coaching job IMO.
