I thought Kentucky started claiming that? He did go 11–1.

Coach Bryant and Bama did NOT win a Bowl game from 1967 thru 1974...one tie in 70 with OU. Nick will be Aight.

Enjoy the ride....they all end

Will never understand how this team lost three games with the amount of talent they had.
Hindsight what it is, the team was plagued with nagging lower body injuries, new OL pieces took time to gel, and there was likely a fair bit of upperclassmen looking toward a draft class coupled with a growing championship gut having avenged the 2008 SEC CG heartache of a loss.

Why is it anything here that ends with a question mark can almost always be answered with a NO?

Saban could get fricked on the 50 yard line by Kirby and a team of flying monkeys from the Salton Sea, and he'll still be College Football's GOAT Coach.

the only thing that would ruin his legacy now is some kind of giant scandal - like what happened at Penn State or if he pulls a Petrino and gets caught with a young coed GF.

These 2 don't even come close to comparing. If he gets caught with a young coed GF, good for him.

I've always wondered how much of a factor bowl games not counting in final Coaches poll until 1974 had on that period.

AP poll changed over in '68, but UA squads weren't competitive for championships from '67-70 on the field and southern politics in that Era weren't going to make a UA AP NC an easy goal off the field.

So, I'd always wondered if the Bear's poor bowl record was due to a culture of treating the bowl game less business like and more of a reward, or just bad coaching/prep over the break. It was a pretty big shift in the importance of the games.

Coach allowed the recruiting to dip starting after 66. He and staff started to turn it around in 69/70 but no freshmen could play. Losing to New-Braska in the 71 NC wasn't great but Bama was back and then took a one loss team to play The Longhorns in 72 and lost. NC game vs Notre Dame in 73 and lost to them again in 74. Bama wasn't playing the Little Sisters of the Poor for sure.

Saban's legacy as the GOAT CFB coach is already intact. The only thing that could tarnish it is a Paterno style scandal.

National media has already declared Bama will win. He can take the night off

They do (and even made a fake crystal football trophy).

'71 orange bowl was bama at #2 vs #1 ... bear lost

'73 sugar bowl was bama at #1 vs #3 ... bear lost (voted upi champ prior to the bowl game; unrecognized fact - alabama has been the reason the ap/upi/bcs changed their ways each time)

'74 sugar bowl was bama at #2 vs #9, but ou (ranked #1) was on probation and ineligible for one of the polls ... bear lost ...

losing a title game doesn't diminish squat if you win several ... curious why the op thinks it might ...

At 66 it would improve his legacy in my eyes

Bowden is probably the best example. He went 2-3 in title games (1 Bowl Coalition, 1 Bowl Alliance, 3 BCS) but that doesn't really have a negative impact on his legacy.

yeah, good call ... he had a few shots in the late 70s/early 80s, but it was essentially the "once every 4 years" type of shot ... several shots in the 90s, but you're going to lose some if you get there often ...

edit: tom osborne comes to mind ... had 1 or 2 shots before his 4 year run in the 90s ...

He’s still the greatest coach in modern day SEC history. So what if he loses two in a row. You know how many schools would love to be in that position?

Didn't Bear Bryant lose like 10 Bowls in a row for a stretch?

No. Saban is a great HC, and if he loses this game, it will be because UGA has a great team and a great up and coming HC. No shame in getting outplayed by a good team.
