Players testing positive for THC

What are your thoughts on this?
Note: I'm not talking about getting caught with marijuana on their possession, simply testing positive for it on a drug test.
What disciplinary action would you say they deserve, if any?
IMO they shouldn't even test for it.

As a regular user myself I have zero issues with it. Unless it's an Alabama player. Those guys deserve to be suspended.

They don't in the NBA, and it seems to be working out alright. I vote this.

It is ridiculous people are punished in this society for it. It's a modern day prohibition. It's no more dangerous than alcohol or tobacco yet many people who decry cannabis/THC are fine with both of those. It is a ridiculous social stigma. So what I'm saying is is I don't care if they test positive for it.

Alcohol kills tens of thousands a year. It's no where close as dangerous as alcohol.

I personally think its bullshite. Being high/getting high isn't illegal. The means to that end is.

Shouldn't be illegal.
Should only be tested with the same severity as alcohol.

One step further... it isn't nearly as harmful as either.

Shouldn't be tested for period.
It's one of the best anti-inflammatories you can find and it is a very effective pain killer.
So aside from it just being fun to use, it has profound medical benefits for people who get beat up for a living.
Go see how many folks in a Jiu-Jitsu gym smoke weed? It's a lot.

I would be fine with the NCAA stop testing for it. If schools want to test for it fine, or if schools want to punish players getting arrested for possessing it, then that's also fine. The only thing the NCAA needs to test for are performance enhancing drugs. They don't need to be acting like probation officers.

Two different issues (e.g., whether players should be tested, what to do if they test positive).
I don’t think it’s smart for any athlete—particularly one who’s receiving a scholarship—to smoke anything. But if I were the policy maker, coaches, not the NCAA, would handle it internally.
Since, however, it IS on the NCAA’s list of banned substances, I’m ok with a 1-2 game suspension, depending on the circumstances. Players know the rules, regardless of what they may think of ‘em.

There's something to be said about constant inebriation being detrimental to the team and program. But it should be a "go run the stadium" type thing, I'm assuming similar to how being drunk is.

I don’t think the OP was referring to medical exceptions (which are permitted by the NCAA).

It should be legalized. The amount of $ the states are losing in tax revenue is insane.

This is my least-favorite argument for legalization. If it's to be legalized, it should be done so on its own merits. Why does it have to be taxed at all, beyond normal municipal sales tax?

I literally couldn't care less about them smoking weed.

THC, is that like the running clap?

It's a hell of a lot safer than college kids smoking spice in an attempt to bypass piss tests and jumping out of windows as a result.
