Thoughts? Is it going to get crazy if a so called verbal commit doesn't sign early? Is this a good thing? I have no idea.

i suspect a lot of this....

It seems like it would be a lot of pressure on coaching staffs with their bowl and playoff games right around the corner.

It's worse for the kids, most taking final exams at high school right now and taking visits this past weekend.

Probably going to be a shite show and I can't wait

I didn't even think about the kids and testing. Seems like a real shite show all the way around.

Nobody knows yet if it’s better or worse. Long term it should be better because it gives lower rated guys a chance to sign without having their offers pulled last minute in February or coaches ducking out right after NSD. I couldn’t care less if it short dicks the coaches and makes them have to work harder

My thoughts as well. Question: will the teams that focus more on recruiting be less prepared for their respective bowl games? It definitely means that the outcome of this season's bowl games are less of a factor in recruiting. And will it become sort of an equalizer allowing teams that either aren't going to bowl games or are in lesser bowl games to focus entirely on recruiting while the teams in the playoffs are preparing for their playoff games?

McElroy using his story of decommitting from Texas Tech as a reason it is bad
I like McElroy but not sure I agree with point

I think the coaches will like it because they can focus on the guys that don't sign.
Also lets the commits know where they really stand if their school does not let them sign early.

I suspect that the early signing period will be moved in a couple of years because of the timing issues of the current date.
Won't be surprised to see it in the first week of December.

why does it have to be so limited?

I personally don't think it should be. Id like so see a date that starts the signing period and it goes all the way to February.
Harder for the teams but I think better for the kids

The early period doesn't help the kids.
UGA will be sitting pretty after this early period. The coaches will be free to focus on 3-4 kids going into February.
But every kid who signed is locked in with no options despite the coaching shite-show that will happen for the next 3 months.

I can see it helping kids.
But this thing will swing like a pendulum. Right now you have coaches in some programs pushing a hard line to kids that they sign or else their spot is in jeopardy. It may work for the short term but I can guarantee you that there will be an up swelling of kids calling that bluff in the not too distant future.
The coaches that slow play will be better positioned and in that time where teams are patient only the kids who are so sure that is where they want to play will sign early.
But I'd like to see the component where a kid can sign at any point after a certain date.

I like it. If you're committed, go ahead an sign. Could cut out a lot of the BS games being played also.

In theory this should force high school students and coaches to be more conscious about their decision early on. Just because a kid can sign early doesn’t mean they have to. For those that need more time they can take it but this forces coaches to be more honest with their intentions. On the whole, I think this gives the players/students more power in negotiations which is badly needed

As with anything else in college athletics, an enterprising coach like Saban will find a way to exploit the loopholes to their advantage. Ultimately, though, the eventuality should be that coaches and programs can’t just shotgun out offers to every kid that may have some talent before their senior seasons. In the long run, it should force coaches to be more focused and diligent on their talent evaluations and subsequent offers
