If LSU beats Bama, will Coach O have earned his ginormous buyout?

It's amazing how LSU fans wanted Coach O fired just a few weeks ago.
If he beats Bama, he will be at LSU for years to come, but would he have earned that ridiculous buyout?
One win shouldn't determine that. He did still lose to Troy at home... but Alleva would probably extend his contract and add on to his buyout if he pulls of the upset in Tuscaloosa next week.

He has the 6th highest buyout in the Sec, and that is with him being a first year coach....
I am sorry the media sold you a lie you bought hook, line, and sinker

His buyout is pretty low, especially compared to many other coaches. Just over $8M on 12/1 and he just signed a deal this being his first year, so that will obviously continue to shrink.
There are coaches with $40M buyouts

People wanted other coaches
Nobody wanted Orgeron, so the buyout is questionable.

You guys didn't need to even give him a buy out or a salary comparable to coaches with proven success. He would have accepted payment in gumbo and jumbalaya, but nope, you gave him the farm.

A Gator fan concerned about the LSU coach
Our new coach beat your old coach
Our new coach also owns a tooth brush
You should be much more worried about a coach that deflects fans away from him by making up stories about how him his staff and his players are receiving death threats
We can handle Coach O - you guys need to handle ole Yellow Teeth

We can at least fire our coach for cause now and not have to pay him any buy out while you guys are stuck with Coach O. I would take our situation over your's.

Explain after his first 7 games and being 5-2 and beating a Top 10 team we are stuck with CEO
Odds are low that we beat the #1 team in the country -next up - but I assure our offense against Bama will look much better than anything Yellow teeth has put together
Lets compare CEO's team after his first year to YT's team after his 3rd year
We looking forward to coming back to the Drained Swamp next year
I see you are a little like your coach - deflected your own issues LOL

Buyouts exist for every coach. It's not like Orgeron got some ridiculous buyout. $8.5M after year 1 is very low considering the market. There's really nothing questionable about it. You dont sign coaches without buyouts these days, and his isn't even his salary guaranteed or close to it.
If Orgeron were to not work out after year 2 or year 3, his buyout is basically peanuts. He was never getting fired after 1 year unless the program completely tanked and missed a bowl game.

I agree him having a buyout was unnecessary but at least he isn’t making fake claims of death threats.

All coaches have buyouts, it's just the nature of doing business these days with HC's and agents.

his buy out is not "ginormous" or "ridiculous". it started at 12 mil. on goes down rather quickly every paycheck he receives. at the end of year 3 it is very low. now, unless he falls flat on his face he will be at LSU in year 3. sure, early on he looked like it might be a flop but he has turned things around.
all of this shitting on Orgeron is what's ridiculous. the guy deserves his shot and is certainly not even near the bottom of SEC coaches. since his USC experience, he has done quite well. he may not win a natty but he may also. miles was not getting it done any longer so we needed somebody else.

shows what you know.
as you SHOULD KNOW, coaching searches are all about timing and selecting the "right" coach is a crap shoot. coach O is still in the running for a good hire but some people (even those with no knowledge, such as yourself) keep dissing on him. plenty of LSU fans do but outsiders with no info is over the top

To educate the people about Orgeron's contract/buyout:
$3.5M/year over 5 years = $17.5M total contract
Buyout was initially $12M, the time he signed the contract
After Year 1
Salary remaining = $14M
Buyout 1/1/18 = $8.5M
After Year 2
Salary remaining = $10.5M
Buyout 1/1/19 = $6M
After Year 3
Salary Remaining = $7M
Buyout 1/1/20 = $4.5M
After Year 4
Salary Remaining = $3.5M
Buyout 1/1/21 = $1M

You're erroneously considering the overall market vs. Ed Ogeron's market...which is/was SOLELY limited to LSU. No other school in American did/does want to pay Ed Ogeron what LSU is paying him. He had ZERO negotiating leverage over LSU if he wanted to to be a power conf. HC.
It's ridiculous not so much because of the number, but because it wasn't necessary. What was Ogeron going to do if LSU didn't agree to a buyout? Go get paid $3.5 mill per and the HC job from NO OTHER SCHOOL IN AMERICA?

Yes...when those coaches have negotiating leverage. Tom Herman, Nick Saban, Harbaugh, hell, even PJ Fleck know they are in demand. They can tell someone who wanted to hire theme "either agree to a large buyout or I'm going somewhere else." Ogeron doesn't have that luxury.
Maybe Ogeron was never going to get fired after year 1. But why unnecessarily tie yourself down financially if it turns out you had to do so?
