And? The buyout was entirely one sided. There was no way any other program was going to come lure Ed away from LSU. If no other program besides Ole Freaking Miss had offered him anything beyond position coach and recruiting coordinator in his 30+ years in coaching, it wasn't going to happen now.

That buyout was bad and Alleva got played. You all acknowledged as much after MSU & Troy. The internet is forever bro. We can find thread after thread of LSU fans complaining about the size of Ed's buyout.

I am sorry the media sold you a lie you bought hook, line, and sinker

What's the lie? Your coach - a career position coach who had shown no ability to lead a team of LSU's caliber to the levels LSU aspires to reach - was given a massive buyout as a knee jerk reaction by your AD to getting turned down by options 1 & 2.

Funny to hear Gator fans talk shite about LSU coaching and football when it's an absolute disaster in Gainesville.

The buyout isn't just about THAT coach. It's to show job security to the top level assistants so they aren't SOL sooner than later with no buyout.

Yeah I know. Every thread was about firing Coach O and Alleva just mere weeks ago. Now they're loving Coach O and think they can beat Bama. I don't think I've seen such a crazy flip before.

Most do not think we can beat bama. Our team is improving but not near bama. As for Coach O, we are going to give him a fighting chance and we will see. I think you guys have already made your decision and it probably is the right one. Not to mention he is a prick.

Yes...when those coaches have negotiating leverage. Tom Herman, Nick Saban, Harbaugh, hell, even PJ Fleck know they are in demand. They can tell someone who wanted to hire theme "either agree to a large buyout or I'm going somewhere else." Ogeron doesn't have that luxury.

Maybe Ogeron was never going to get fired after year 1. But why unnecessarily tie yourself down financially if it turns out you had to do so?

Again, quite literally all these coaches have buyouts, does anyone want EVERY single coach? No. It's just part of what it is. We weren't going to sign Orgeron to a $3.5M yr/5 year deal with no buyout or something like a $1M buyout. Some things always go by market, this is the case here. Of course nobody likes it, but it is what it is.

I also went to Georgia Southern and we just fired our head coach who had a $1M buyout, at Georgia Southern. Trust me when I say absolutely nobody was banging down this guy's door to be HC after 1 mediocre season as DC at Colorado State. Yet he ended up with a nice buyout for a guy nobody wanted.

People think of buyouts way too single minded. It's not just about that coach securing himself, it's about a securing his assistants and recruits as well. What recruit would want to play for a coach who could easily get canned with no repercussions? Better yet what assistant coach wants to come into a volatile situation like that? We wanted top coordinators in the country to stay on with Ed, why would they do that if they feel he's going to get fired after 1 season with no buyout then they are out of jobs too?

It's the nature of the coaching profession, most don't realize or admit it.

To structure a contract at a public university that is very unique, one that has no buyout, could raise some flags and potentially undercut the head coaches ability to perform him job of recruiting players and attracting top assistant coaches.
To continue to ignore this fact and push the buyout narrative shows your ignorance of the big picture or your alter motive.

The day LSU is able to have a legitimate passing attack is the day we can talk about O possibly earning his buyout. Miles was fired due to be one dimensional and so far it's pretty much the same ole story.

Yeah, we should of gave no buyout. That way recruiting could go straight down the drain. We can get assistants from our local high schools. I'm glad we have these intelligent conversations.

People wanted other coaches

Nobody wanted Orgeron, so the buyout is questionable.

No coach at a major program signs a contract without a full guaranteed buyout anymore. And O's contract is pretty small comparative to his peers

He basically begged for the job (not a criticism) and had no leverage from his previous coaching record or his market demand. He signed a 3 year contract in part because LSU recognized he wasn't a sure thing, big time hire. There was no reason to give a $12 million buyout with that contract.

It's amazing how LSU fans wanted Coach O fired just a few weeks ago.

Why is that amazing? LSU fans are only happy if they can fire the coach every year. We also need 11 QB's available so a backup can start every game. And that would be after winning the SEC championship.
