The night before: Meaningless thoughts from Klarvin

Team is pretty focused and rallied around guys like Trayveon whose families were hit hard by Harvey. I wouldn't expect that to hurt our play if anyone was concerned.
Chavis is selling out to stop thevrun this year even at the expense of more big plays in the passing game. Expect lots of fun blitzes and press man coverage with our big corners.
Nobody is kicking to Christian Kirk this year if they know what's good for them. He took FOUR punts to the house in fall practice full contact return drills in less than 10 attempts.
Our receiving corps will have growing pains. It's worsened by he fact that Ratley, despite being very adept at getting open, still drops about a third of the balls thrown his way.
Don't expect Priest Willis to play tomorrow.
Tyrel Dodson will be in the top 5 in the SEC in tackles.
We're gonna run the ball a lot whether it works or not.
Overall Sumlin's demeanor is noticeably different this year. Not quite as jovial in practice and has obviously closed himself and his staff off from the media moreso than ever before. Supposedly didn't say a word on the flight to LA to anyone. I'll leave that to interpret as you wish.

Good. There needs to be some sort of change in his attitude.

Stopped reading here because the rest is going to be you fooling yourself that we're somewhat decent. We're dogshit and you need to accept it and stop looking for the bright spots.

So did Slocum in 2002, Franchione in 2007, Sherman in 2011...he knows he's done this year.

Doubtful on the Sherman part. Was coming off a good 2010 season and that 2011 team had talent for days. He didn't expect 6-6 and to be fired. That was a 10-2 team we just had shitty luck and it's a shame cause Papa Sherm was such a great guy.

That's a bingo... preseason top 10.

Sumlin worried about job, and should be. I added MSU to auto loss list today.
Maybe Chavis will have a decent run defense - would be massive improvement

Based on what?
Did you add UF to the auto win?

This seems like a bigger con for our punt team than a pro for Kirk.

This speaks volumes about our fanbases perspective. Seeing the negative in absolutely everything.
We rated 3rd in the SEC and 28th Nationally at 5.26 yards/return in punt defense last year. Which is not elite but its pretty damn good.
Meanwhile, we rated 1st Nationally with 25.36 yards/return. The next closest SEC team was Alabama at 15.53 yards/return. That 9.83 yard difference would have been enough on its own for 32nd in the country.
It is incredibly likely that our punt return defense will be just fine.

Good points. But no punt team should ever give up 4 TDs in 10 attempts. I don't care if DeAngelo Hall is back there with even more speed.
I also complete agree that I am negative going into the season. It will be a hell of a lot better to be pleasantly surprised than to be utterly disappointed again.

Kevin Sumlin is now going into his 10th year as a head coach without winning a conference title of any kind.

Actually, Farmer, I did. Record doesn't change - losses to Ark, MSU, SC, AL, LSU, and Auburn. Wins against the three sisters of the poor, OM and FL who is going to be a train wreck this year
Swing game is UCLA
Expect the FL job to be open shortly, Mullen to get it, and then the MSU job to be open
Aranda will be an NFL DC next year, but I REALLY wish he'd be our coach. The job is probably going to come down to Durkin and Morris from what I know - Durkin was also on our board, and yesterday helped him tremendously. Those are my predictions.

Nah, they extended him to 2022 already. LINK
Not sure why MSU beating up on Charleston Southern made you put them down as an auto loss. A Big South team w/a first year HC whose previous stops were at The Citadel, Williamsburg Academy, and Hargrave Military Academy isn't all that impressive.

Like it or not, if Sumlin gets canned and Morris turns SMU around he'll be the hire. I'm 95% confident of that based on what I know.
Now if SMU is still terrible that's a different matter

Do you know what the AD thinks of morris? Do we think he'll be able to come in and get us back in major recruitments?
