This story sure reads as if the woman was doing nothing to PROVOKE the kid. Sounds like a pretty one sided story.
They say men should never hit a woman...why don't they say if a man is to never hit a woman, she is never to provoke him.

Even if he was provoked, just walk away. Get the frick outta there, leave the situation and don't risk throwing your career away before it ever starts.

I get you, but it also doesn't appear he hit her, just grabbed her by the back of the neck and pushed her. Not that it's okay to do that to anyone, but this was a misdemeanor, otherwise it would be a felony. Also, sounds like he is bad news waiting to happen. Kid at 18 (now 19), does this to his girlfriend because she was trying to walk away....he's got character issues that we don't need from a kid coming in as a freshman. He knows what was at stake....hope he turns his life around, but this was a decision that had to be made. Sucks, but that's life.

I understand that is what the report says but I've seen a lot of these things written up one-sided primarily because the police are getting one side of the story when they write these things up.
It may very well be the case that there was no provocation and it's all on him with him being totally at fault. If so, he should get what he deserves but don't rush to a judgment is all I'm saying.
I'm pretty sure we've had some stories about athletes on here over the last few years and the initial reports didn't always hold up once more light was shed on the subject.

I guess he is eligible for any school now, without penalty....
As for the SEC, does their "policy" apply to a misdemeanor? Felonies? Domestic only? This was a simple battery charge, which isn't a defined incident.

I'm not sure of the SEC policy but I think the school can set a policy above and beyond what the SEC would do. I agree that administratively the school could dismiss someone for what is in essence conduct unbecoming without necessity of any criminal conviction--but they usually reach that decision after some form of an internal investigation. I think that this got kicked around when the player with the marijuana was let go even though he had a legal defense to the criminal charge.
In all honestly I'd have to read up on the SEC policy to see what his options might be as to eligibility at other schools.
Edit: It appears that a transfer is prohibited if the player engaged in "serious misconduct" at the other school but it apparently seems to require a conviction, guilty, or nolo plea. LINK. In my area we work a lot of these misdemeanor cases (and even felonies in some cases) where none of these things occur--the case basically gets continued, sometimes with conditions, and then gets dismissed.

There are lots of domestic violence cases these days and a lot of times it takes some time for the whole story to come out.
Verdict first, trial to follow - that's the way these things are dealt with nowadays.

I don't think it matters if he was provoked. If he did what she says he did... it's done. Maybe Louisville will touch him.

He's on his way to Auburn already.

I get the legalise of the situation but you're talking about a 19 year old kid with a baby by this girl and an independent witness was able to verify what happened and the girl is claiming this wasn't the first time.
He hasn't lost the privilege to go to college and play football, just the privilege to do it at UGA and in fine with that. For the sake of his very young child, I hope he lands somewhere he can get shite figured out; that kid is already entering life with a teenager mother and an allegedly abusive father. Needs someone to grow up and be the adult

I didn't want a player named D'Antne on our team anyway. He'll feel right at home on the Aubie chain gang.

I'm going to backtrack and I think you are right on both accounts.
From what I've been able to glean he wasn't a student but was a prospective student and hence he's not going to have the same protections as a student (similar to a prospective employee-employee situation). So long as he was not denied admission on the basis of race, gender, etc., I think the school could deny him admission. I'm assuming that the school had enough information to convince them that the team would be better off without him and that if he were allowed to enroll then they would be risking future problems. So both legally and on a human level they seem to be making the right call.
Along with that I don't think the transfer rule would come into play. If he's not a student then there is no issue of a transfer and also I would note that the serious misconduct rule doesn't apply to incoming freshmen LINK so it would make sense that he could enroll in whatever school wanted to have him provided he satisfied that school's criteria.

GEORGIA CUTS TIES WITH DEMERY
On Sunday morning, Athens-Clarke County Police released some details about that arrest. They were disturbing, to say the least. It was the result of Demery allegedly getting physical with his girlfriend, the mother of his 1-month old child. Demery also has another child.
I'm sure he was salutatorian from his "alternative" high school.
