for speaking up about the horrible officiating in this league. You cannot watch SEC basketball anymore its so bad.
LINK
Notice he wasn't standing, he wasn't yelling. He told the official he was bad. Yes, he used an expletive. But its ridiculous there was any punishment. MSU message boards say he is on probation with the Dean of Students over this. I used to call Gerald Boudreaux every name in the book.
Hell, our AD has said a lot worse to SEC officials over the years.

Teddy Valentine heard much worse than that when he officiated the UK game earlier this year and he didn't get anyone kicked out.
I actually think the man enjoys being hated everywhere he officiates

Update: Part of his punishment was to write an apology letter.
I hope it begins with
Dear Official.
I'm sorry you suck.

That student probably hurt the ref's feelings. Inexcusable.

Seems excessive. Isn't the kid suffering enough living in Starkville?

Any ref that takes it that personally knows there is truth behind it.

I'm sorry but the only letter of apology that should be written is from the Refs to the fans.

I got kicked out of a game at Cal. I didn't even use profanity.
Me about 5 feet from the ref: That was a horrible call. (Everyone else in the stands was yelling and booing.)
Ref: You watch it, kid.
Me: Don't get mad at me. You're the one that made the mistake.
Then he pointed at security to remove me.

I've been kicked out of a game before for yelling at the ref. Asked him where to send my resume to get paid to suck at my job. Got a warning, then next trip back down the court when he missed another call I told him he can give me half his paycheck and I would tell him how to do his job correctly.
I know csb.

Why is an official even acknowledging a comment from the crowd?

Because they're the kind of people that think being an SEC college basketball official is a worthwhile thing to do.
