It's not hard to make a great hire when you drop the kind of $ Bama does.

If he is anything like his dad, prepare for your football team to suck, really expensive ticket price increases, a deal with "Pepsi" (no Coke products), and concessions with "northern" food.
I once had the pleasure of sharing a table with his dad, Bill Byrne, at an A&M Club banquet about a year before we announced our move to the SEC. Of course there were rumors, so I asked him point blank what he thought about the SEC. Bill Byrne told me that the SEC is the most backwards of all the conferences, and that SEC fans are the worst and stupidest in all of college football, and that A&M was "above" associating with anyone in the SEC. And that A&M would fit much better in the PAC because their fans are more cultured and refined.
Thankfully, the decision was made by wiser folks and was made way above his pay grade. He actually wasn't even involved in our decision to move, and was ultimately forced out because he didn't support our move to the SEC.
I will say that moving to the SEC is the best thing that has ever happened to TAMU. The fans are great, the competition is at the highest level, and it is a very well run league.
Hopefully for y'all, he isn't like his dad.

lol what more do you want?
Your non revenue sports are doing very well. Football is killing it. You brought in a former NBA coach, and you made a very solid baseball hire.
Byrne doesn't have to do shite but fund raise for a while. No hires are needed.

Maybe he'll let the club teams wear Alabama logo uniforms.

No offense but I'd judge Greg Byrne as a hire more on his own track record than a third-party's memory of a dinner with his dad a few years ago.

Battle is going home to transition his company to his kids. Here's a snippet for the uneducated:
The CLC is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. He hasn't been healthy in a while and wants to get his house in order before it's too late.
quote:
Battle is the founder and chairman of The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC). In 1981, while working for Golden Eagle Enterprises in Selma, Alabama, Battle signed Paul "Bear" Bryant to a licensing agreement. The University of Alabama signed on as CLC’s first university client. In 1983, Battle moved the newly formed company to Atlanta, Georgia.

Anyone with the last name Byrne means the end of any quality football program.

Greg Byrne will also not take any shite from dominant coaches. He told Ron Polk to sit down and STFU when he hired John Cohen as Polk's successor. Polk raised 4 tons of shite about it and demanded his name be removed from our baseball field. Byrne has 0 shits to give about anyone's opinion but his own and his own is usually pretty good.

Well. A guy with the last name of Saban has a pretty damn good track record of determining otherwise. I'm not worried.

Saban isn't Polk. He didn't build what he inherited from nothing.

If that's the case he won't last long at Bama.

I hope Jacobs lasts longer at AU to be honest.

Or he'll turn ALL Bama athletic teams into a fricking juggernaut. He has yet to be fired from a Directorship and has left every place he has been in a lot better position than he found it.
My money is on Byrne doing a hell of a job.

They are both legends in their prospective sport.

True enough. But from all reports, Saban has worked well with Moore and Battle. I don't expect any less. Plus, who's going to butt into a legend on his last 5-7 years?
