Touché.
Let's hope Byrne is no Bockrath

I could see Greg Byrne as a conference commissioner at some point. Football guy. Has right temperament to work with Nick Saban.

Battle wasn't fired. He never was going to be a long term he's 75 and has been going 100 mph his entire life. He said he wanted to have the freedom to enjoy the remainder of his life.

Greg Byrne will also not take any shite from dominant coaches.

NO ONE at Bama tells Saban what to do...NO ONE. They learned from the Stallings debacle and Saban is a money press for the University.

As in any business...you leave the top sales people/producers alone and only ask what you can do to help them.

Yea. No one stood up to Polk either. Saban is no doubt making the university $100's of millions but his luster is starting to tarnish. Dabo is the future of Alabama and Dabo might decide that he is a God in the ACC already with the same play-in path the SEC has to the national championship. And a hell of a lot easier. You want Byrne flying this plane when that time comes. We didn't call him "The Ninja" for nothing.

LOL on what planet?

He's won 3 straight SEC Football Titles, been to straight 3 playoffs and won the national championship last season.

But yes, very happy to have Byrne. Very happy.

Excellent hire in Byrne. UF tried to get him when searching for ADs and he rebuffed UF's offers

It is sort of interesting, although IMO Stricklin is a perfect fit for us. Stricklin was one of the first targets as well and initially turned us down, took several weeks to get the hire done.

Byrne is a bigtime hire. Until he came to Miss State we didn't have anyone who listened to the fans.

He won't do anything for Bama football that hasn't already been done but what he WILL do is raise up all of the other sports programs.

He got the ball rolling for Msu before we hired one of our own in Scott Stricklin who made some good hires. Unfortunately Florida took him away but John Cohen is turning out to be a great replacement. I think Byrne will elevate Bama's other sports bigtime.

He gets to hire Saban's replacement in 5-10 years. Assuming he isn't a conference commissioner then.

Very excited, though I also really like what we've recently added in other sports coaching wise.

The biggest thing (other than future Saban replacement) will be pushing a new basketball arena. My guess is that will be at the top of the long term infrastructure list along with a new Swim facility.

Clay Travis tweet:
Wow. Bama hires an AD before the job officially opens and Tennessee has been looking six months.

Would be great and it is needed but the university isn't going to allow the city to keep any of those revenues. Won't happen. And where? Not many spaces downtown for such a facility
UA will demand it be on campus and make others pay for limited use. The exact reason they wouldn't consider a baseball stadium off campus.
