Well, the "ref's were against us" talking point has taken a turn. Some bammers have found a Mike Defee in Darlington, SC, who looks a little like the Texas Mike Defee, the "gun show" Big 12 referee that called Monday's game, and who happens to be a Clemson fan with a daughter in school at Clemson.
As if Rogers Redding would actually assign an official with Clemson ties to work the championship game. Shameful.

Yes, lets use this standard of ethics for SEC Refs. We would have to get a whole new crop! but they would all get new jobs in Bham in the SEC Office...

I wonder if Mike Defee and Ed Hochuli work out together

Texas A&M is the only game Bama has received somewhat favorable treatment from the refs. In most games this year, the number of penalties has been heavily skewed towards Bama's opponents. Bama actually got screwed by the refs a lot more in the Washington game than they did against Clemson but nobody cared because Bama won that game so easily.

Oh God, why won't they stop with this? Refs suck, for each opponent. Clemson handled us late, we couldn't sustain a drive to save our lives. They were better than us...they ARE better than us! Sack up and try again next year.

All fan bases have some crazies who believe that type of nonsense. Most of the time those crazies are the vocal extreme minority (obvious exception being LSU whose fans truly believe conspiracy theories about Refs, Scheduling, NCAA, etc).
Bottom line for that game:
Bama ran the ball 48% of the time before Bo got hurt, vs only 22% of the time after he went out (and Bama was up 10). Bama has no one to blame but themselves for losing that game. Keep running the ball and controlling the clock with a 10 point lead and they are likely celebrating back-to-back championships. Throw the ball 78% of the time after Bo goes down and you give the Clemson offense the chance to make plays, which they did.
Credit to Clemson, not refs.

DeFee was on D. Patrick's show this morning & while he would not take questions about specific calls from the NCG, in response to D.P's hypothetical about what he looks for in a pick play, he said that "any overt act on the part of the DB" negates any flag for picking. And he said that "leaning into/initiating contact with the WR" constitutes an overt act. Which is what happened in both plays. But surely bama fans recall that Saban ran the same exact play to beat LSU in OT in 2014?
