Obama's Farewell Address and what you will remember him for.

Caught the last 20-30 minutes. Because of the SJWs I view everything through the lens of their agenda, so I didn't really like a lot of the points, but it wasn't that bad otherwise. I think a lot of the speech was meant to be "even handed" but given the cheers, it felt more left wing than it probably was. He really is an amazing orator. While I find Trump entertaining and a breath of fresh air, we are definitely losing something in that department. Obama is an all time public speaker. I think people will study him for years.
As far as his legacy, I think we will look back at his Administration as one of ineffectiveness and divisiveness, but I don't know how much of that to pin directly on him, or just the inmates running the asylum. "Obamacare" was really just a few overarching points, and then Pelosi and her cronies and donors filling in the next thousand pages. Easily one of the worst pieces of legislature ever written, the hallmark of his Presidency, and ironically enough, it was designed largely out of his control. However, it also got the ball rolling on fixing health care in the system. It established something for the Republicans to have in place that might not be popular with their constituents, but needed to happen anyway. At this point, I do agree the ownership going forward is going to be on them.
I will say, I am glad we finally had a black President. I think it was historic, important, and we can look at our country and say that a lot of people do not care about the color of his skin, but the content of his character. I think that was something we as a country needed. Of course people on the Left will violently defend him just because he's black, but whatever. Identity politics is not the weapon it used to be, and I'll let them cling to their dying cause. I think a lot of people want to blame Obama for race relations, and I think inviting BLM to the White House legitimized them and it was completely inappropriate and ridiculous, but the MSM is the largest culprit for that. There are young black men and women growing up believing in the boogie man of "white privilege" and I think that is the media's monster. I don't think Obama has dispelled any of that rhetoric and cemented it in some ways, and could have quelled much of the dissent in this country... but looking back I hope we see that as the left wing media's bastard creation. Although, the "if I had a son" shite was ridiculous and feeds in to a narrative of young black children being hunted by cops which is absurd, and that I will plant squarely on him. Even LeBron has mentioned worrying about his sons which was the biggest farce. I guess I will have to see how much that lingers in the collective conscious before I don't have to pin on him. Time will tell. And this country is going to be a majority Hispanic in 30 years. This white vs black thing that dominated politics for so long is literally going to be an artifact. It's just literally won't be a thing.
As for Obama's foreign policy, I may in the 5% of people that liked how much he droned the frick out of people. Highest marks in my book. Otherwise his foreign policy has pretty much sucked. The power vacuum in Iraq was all him. His anti-Israel shite is a joke. The Iran Nuclear deal was a disaster. But whatever. It can call be corrected soon.
His economics are the things that drive me the craziest. The stimulus. The debt. QE1. The welfare state. QE2. Stifling the shale revolution when EVEN IN HIS SPEECH TONIGHT HE TALKED ABOUT HALVING DEPENDENCY ON FOREIGN OIL WHEN HE DID LITERALLY NOTHING TO HELP IT, EXTENDED ZERO FEDERAL LEASES, AND IF HE DID WE MIGHT EVEN BE COMPLETELY OFF FOREIGN OIL. Terrible economic growth. QE3. I don't even want to list how terrible it all was it's just too much.
Overall: C- for now. There were no complete blunders like the GWoT that would knock him in to the D territory, but there are no high points. It's all just error after error. Each error is somewhat survivable, but at this point, if I was asked to pick my favorite thing Obama did, I'm not sure I could name a single thing other than flying death robots, and I wish we weren't even in the position where we had to use them. Maybe I'll look back after Trump and have a completely different perspective, but for now, he strikes me as an ideologue that trusted the Democratic machine too much. For an amazing orator that evokes confidence, he was surprisingly weak. He had a few big ideas that were implemented in the worst way possible because he did nothing but appease to the clueless Dems within his own party. I think his lack of a real job ever lead to this idealism. When you buy in to the political machine, and "community organizing"(why did he mention this so much tonight?), I think you start to believe your bullshite. Obama seems like a good man when it comes down to it, just naive and oblivious. George W. Bush suffered from some of those same flaws, and I think W. is a good man as well.

One of my least favorite decisions was him turning down offering vouchers, which would be funded by public funds, to get kids of low income families and the poor environment out of the inner city schools and allowing them to attend better school systems.

I was willing to give him a chance, and right out of the gate when he went on his apology tours for America being the world leader, he lost me. That was basically treason, and set the tone for most of his agenda in office.
He's not a bad person I don't think, just misguided, as most liberals are.

I don't give a flying frick about his politics, economic or foreign policy, any of it. None of it was really memorable, except for Obamacare.
What I will remember is how the man had a chance to champion reason and unity amongst our races when racial tensions became tight under his watch, and instead he chose to sow discord and division.

I will most remember having great insurance until Obamacare kicked in and it went to shite along with my deductible going up from $500.00 for me, the wife, and 2 kids to $3000.00 which also included prescriptions.

In chronological order:

Killing Osama Bin Ladin... All he did was give the order though, I don't feel that it was necessary for him to have to tell our guys to take that dick bag out.
Making healthcare accessible to everyone while fricking up healthcare at the same time.
Adding to racial division and distrust of police officers in the minority communities.
Using the tax payer's money to campaign for HRC, but I know pretty much every previous President has done something like this.
Joe Biden memes... Funny as hell.
Having no balls to call countries/companies out for the better interest of America.
Overall I'd give him a 5/10.

Giving the green light to enter Pakistan and kill Bin Laden. That took balls I did not think he had and I will always respect him for that decision.

There is nothing about his Presidency that moved this country forward. Foreign policy is a shitstorm. Economic and health policies are crippling. Race relations are worse. He spent 8 yrs being self serving and has made the world a much more dangerous place with his inept policies and bowing to Iran.

i actually agree with a lot of the OP. i started out as an Obama hater early on and then softened a bit in my early 30s.
the man has a different world view than i do. he wants good for people, we just want to go about it very different ways.
i think he's an insanely better man than Trump, but less so than Bush. But he was a better president than Bush by a mile as far as being effective and getting his message out.
that being said. i think he's a godless man and his moral fiber waxes and wanes with popular opinion as opposed to any true stances. most of that would be where our differences stem from. but at the end of the day, i'd have a beer with him.

ACA ( i agree with preexisting conditions, but that's it really)
don't even need to explain them. the record stands for itself.

Just as people will study for years how he publicly spoke, people will also study how he handled race relations so they know to do the exact opposite.
