Stop blaming the damn refs

Im sick of this loser shite. Blame the goddamn staff for not being prepared for the pick plays and all those 7+ yard slant routes. Where were OUR slant routes? I'll tell you where they were...nonexistent.
The bottom line is, Saban had better figure out how to start demoralizing teams again. And I dont wanna hear anymore B.S. blaming the quarterback for doing what he's told. Yes he makes mistakes and yes his passing ability hasn't developed yet BUT IT WILL eventually. QBs progress from year to year and it was a damn miracle we got this far with Hurts. Anybody waxing their carrots over Tua has NO CLUE ABOUT FOOTBALL. Start over with another freshmen? Get the whole entire frick outta here.
More of you need to be more honest with yourselves about the fact that we get outcoached more often than we should. Injuries caused us not to be able to bail out a conservative, gutless game plan.

I don't blame the refs. But you want to blame the coach who is on the verge of becoming the undisputed greatest coach in history? Maybe you should have emailed him your ideas on how to sustain drives with zero passing game.

Yeah, Big 12 officials are used to seeing pick plays so are probably less prone to calling 'em...not sure why we weren't switching or playing combo, especially on the last one...
We lost that game 'cause their WRs were more physical than our DBs...while they had no receivers over 100 yards, they had 4 with 90+...and Mike Williams caught practically every 50-50 ball, especially in the 4th Quarter...

The QB was told to overthrow his receivers? No wonder we lost.

There were just as many WR drops as overthrown passes. And last I checked, overthrowing deep is better than underthrowing it. AJ had issues overthrowing receivers his first year too. Its called inexperience. That will get fixed.

Every coach has flaws.
And if you actually watched the game instead of masterbating about the past, you would seen us get away from the run game AGAIN. Even after the injury, Harris had carries of over 5 yards then ended up on a milk carton.

So, since I'm a dummy, help me out here... Your game plan would be, since some runs worked, run it in every situation and against every defensive alignment? Is that how it works? The defense would never know what hit them, right?
Stop melting. This was almost inevitable. It just took longer than I thought it would. Hell, yesterday, even I put my crimson glasses on and started thinking Hurts would make some throws downfield to the WR's and the offense would really click. But, that was wishful thinking.
We'll just have to wait and see how much he progresses in the off season.

Teague, where were the slant routes to Ridley or Steward? Where was OJ over the middle? Almost ALL of our passing plays call for long developing routes with hardly anything underneath. We needed quick strike passing plays that neutralized our OL deficiencies.
Its common sense that you need shorter routes when your OL is having trouble.

I'm going to assume those short passes were some of the ones that were batted down and that Hurts didn't throw because the receiver was covered. Probably because the safeties were pulled in, not respecting the deep throws. And, in fairness to Hurts, he did have 2 or 3 short passes dropped that could have/should have been caught.

I agree that we shouldn't have game planned to drop passes and miss open receivers.
Yes, there were some questionable calls and yes, the offensive game plan was somewhat conservative. But we had scored and had the lead late in game.
I am proud of this team. I am not blaming the refs or the coaches or the players.
We got beat. We got beat by a really good team with really good players. We out-athlete about 80% of the teams we see. With the other 20%, we are usually just better prepared and execute better. Sometimes, the other team plays well too and we lose. With the run that we are on, and that I expect to continue...I can deal with this. The sun is up this morning.

We got beat by a better team. Period. Could have won? Yeah. But in spite of how good our defense is, when you look at the totality of the teams, Clemson is better.
We got beat because of an NC State kicker who couldn't put the final nail in their coffin.

Think about this: our gripes during the Saban era have remained the same going into year #10. Win or lose, our weak spots are always QB production, specifically passing production, interior OL, DBs/pass defense and place kicker.

Funny you mention that NC State kicker. I was thinking about that when Watson was driving down the field. We'd be playing Washington last night if that kick had been made.
Clemson was the better team. The whole night felt like we were playing their game. If we play them 10 times, Clemson probably wins 6 or 7.

Hasn't been a weak spot until this year with a true freshman QB. Do some of you even think before you type?

Name me a Bama QB other than AJ that you felt comfortable with if you knew the game was on their shoulders. That if our running game was shut down, they could move the offense on their own and throw for 300+.

Well, I obviously was comfortable with Coker and Sims in that sense, as evident by my previous post.

I don't blame the officials for the loss because on both pick plays for TDs we put them in position to score. BUT on both occasions it was indefensible because the receiver took out both DBs.

Our staff saw the pick plays and no the refs were not going to call it so not sure why we did not adjust for it.

What is your suggestion for "adjusting"?

You do realize that a pick play is nearly impossible to defend, right? That's why it's not legal.
