Two coaching stints at LSU under Miles and previous head coaching experience. Named top recruiter in the SEC last year.

I'm really liking our position coach hires.

One thing they have in common, they are all excellent recruiters. More Jimmies and Joes beat X's and O's. Alabama is proof. Saban is not the greatest game day coach. He gets good assistants and the best players in the country year in and year out.

Wish we could have stole Saban's LB coach but this will suffice. As long as Crimedog's scheme and game plan is good he should fine. Need to get LB's on campus and teach them to shed blocks, have sound gap assignment and tackle with bad intentions.

Also he was LSU's lead recruiter on Cam Akers for years....and is real solid with the family!

There's lots of debate to be had about the balance between recruiting and coaching ability. Clearly, Freeze is staking his job on recruiting hires on the defensive side.

I am 100% behind recruiting. You can't name a national championship team that wasn't extremely talented. If we want to play big boy ball, we have to recruit with them consistently.

Is Peveto a BBQ Pitmaster or something? Why all the references to bbq by LSU fans?

That fan base is crazy. Guy came on here and said he was glad to see him go. The guy was the top recruiter in the conference last year but you're glad to see him go...foh

To be as diplomatic about LSU as possible which really isn't necessary considering this is the OM board, I don't really think LSU knows what they want. I said more than once, it was a good day for us and the rest of the SEC when they made Orgeron official. He may not be terrible, but given the tools a coach has to work with there, they could have done soooo much better. The rest of us got off easy, you might say, with that hire. And with that hire, I'm firmly convinced the current leadership down there doesn't have a firm grasp on what's best for all concerned and the fan base is right in behind them. Their advice and opinions hold very little weight.

LSU's special teams were bad. Their LB play hasn't been lights out the last couple of years either. Hopefully he can recruit his arse off.

bad is an understatement. I asked several times why he had not been fired yet and now he is our coach.

Anyone trying to judge a coach off their tenure at LSU under Miles is going to be sadly disappointed. As a position coach he may be bad or he may not. We won't know until he is under another HC & DC. Then again if he can get the LBers to identify their gaps and be there then that is a twofold improvement over the past year. What we do know is he has been a really good recruiter his entire career.

What was bad about LSU's special teams? This year punt returns good, kickoff returns bad. Kicking and punting are largely a product of recruiting those positions. the entire special teams game is also a product of how many of your best players are you willing to put on ST and how much practice time you are willing to allocate to that area of of the game. I thought their linebackers looked great this year.

LINK

When he took over the LSU defense in 2008, it was LSU's worst defense in the 21st century. When he took over as HC for Northwestern State, the program got worse. When he took over LSU's special teams, we instantly became the worst ST unit in the conference.

I give you guys a pretty objective take from an LSU fan that doesn't even hate Ole Miss, and looking at this objectively, Peveto is a joke. Sorry. He's a pretty good recruiter, but you are even overestimating his recruiting abilities.

He'll get your foot in the door, no doubt. Still I would hope, for your sake, that Freeze doesn't let Peveto do anything but live out of a suitcase and recruit

It didn't improve until Les was fired and O basically told Peveto to sit tf down

wait...wasn't that the year where you guys had Co-DC's with one guy calling plays for the front 7 and another calling plays for the secondary simultaneously?

That's hard to place blame on just Peveto.

You want us to believe that the firing of your best recruiter was somehow a good thing...cool story bro.

I keep hearing the same thing, how bad LSU's ST's were. Have any of y'all seen Ole Miss play special teams for the past five years?!? It's not possible for them to get worse.
