I am concerned about Jacob Eason's arm

I know I am going to take a lot of heat for saying this, but what concerns me is Jacob Eason's arm. He has thrown three deep passes this year and all three were underthrown. We got two PI penalties from two of them and the receiver came back and caught the third.

Before anybody points out the 50 yard "bomb" to McKenzie against NC, take another look. It was thrown 30 yards down field and McKenzie ran another 20 or so yards.

Ok. Now everybody can start throwing rocks at me.

I'll give him more than 2 games before I start doubting his abilities, but that's just me

I have actually thought about these throws a few times over the past few weeks, because you are right, he has underthrown all of his deep balls. I am sure he has the arm strength, I dont think that is the problem. I am thinking his timing is just off and he isnt fully in sync with the receivers just yet. Need to get him more reps IMO

He's actually appeared to overthrow receivers as much if not more than underthrow them. That's been my observation, at any rate.

Was just about to say this. He's overthrown a few as well. His arm looks to have plenty of strength. He just needs to be more accurate.

I may be mistaken, but weren't at least one of those overthrown?

Benching him for the rest of the game, immediately following his first INT bothers me more than anything. I know the receiver say their job is no different, no matter who's under center, but I don't believe that for a second.

There's no way Lambert gets the ball as far downfield like Eason. It's not physically possible. The cure for Eason overthrowing the WRs is reps and reps alone. Here's hoping Coley rips them a new one for the drops and for nor being fast enough to be where the ball is down field.

Maybe college receivers are faster than Washington State high school receivers. Ya think?

I agree with your overall point, but the UNC play was thrown from the 26 to the 33. Thats 24 + 17 which = 41 yards.

I personally agree with this.

After 2 weeks I'm not gonna judge our freshman QB, our very young receivers, or our first year head coach. That's just me (and apparently DawgCountry too).

Didn't Aaron Murray and David Greene have "poor arm strength" too?

Aaron Murray has a much bigger arm than people game him credit for. Caught one at an event at the Cap One bowl game on the far side of a conference room. My hands stung for probably 15-20 minutes and it was at least 40-50 yards away...

Question what you will about him, but I don't think arm strength is something experts misjudge. It's pretty objective.

As far as I can recall, Murray's arm strength was NEVER a question. Greene's was. Murray was touted for being able to "make every throw" and those include the deep ones.

Accuracy will come with defensive recognition.

Once he starts getting comfortable...

Agreed, which is why you don't bench the kid after his first, appreciable mistake. The decision to throw was jacked up. The deflected INT was luck for the defender.

Don't say that. Deeprig will question your entire youth/high school football credentials

I don't question his arm strength or overall potential. Experts know this better than I do. I think its just timing, reps, experience, jitters, etc. I suspect (and hope) that over the next couple of games, we will see more of the playbook, better reads, better throws, and more confidence. Once this kid feels comfortable, he should be lights out.
