They shouldn't have released him. They shouldn't have trashed his stuff. Saban shouldn't have just up and walked out on his mother. This is why I hate Gump fans. They defend Bama when no self respecting person could.

UGA's secondary is probably the strength of the D, if the review process takes months for what ever reason the dawgs will be fine with or without Smith. Just glad this soap opera is over.

SEC will deny it. Notice who granted "release" the AD and NOT the cry baby prick coach.

I think Alabama was right all along. Shouldn't give in because someone cries to the press. Now the doors are open to SEC schools poaching players in Maurice Smith's situation.

I'd be very surprised if he transfers to GA and starts. What kind of dissension would that create if he takes a position away from someone who has been there practicing all along?

If it was a rule Saban couldn't possibly bend on, how did he bend on the rule? He just proved he can do whatever he wants.

quote:

he SEC office had on Smith's specific case on Wednesday but did issue a statement in the waiver process. "The SEC does not comment on requests to waive SEC rules," the SEC release said. "As part of the SEC waiver process, a due diligence procedure ensures that pertinent information from the involved parties is gathered. This information is gathered for the purpose of a thoughtful and appropriate consideration of the particular facts associated with each case. The intent is for the waiver process to be handled in an efficient but deliberate manner, so the timeline for resolution of a waiver request varies with each unique situation. The SEC does not provide waivers of SEC rules absent circumstances that demonstrate a clear reason for granting an exception to those rules. Each waiver request is reviewed on a case by case basis."
I'm eager to see if the SEC feels like Maurice Smith's "circumstances" demonstrate a clear reason for granting a waiver to play immediately.

I could see a situation where a player needs to be closer to home, or having a very ill family member which clearly aren't the case with Smith. I could understand if he was relegated to the bench at Bama and was buried on the depth chart with little to no chance of playing, which isn't the case with Smith.

I'd just like to know the circumstances he plans to appeal to the SEC office for a waiver.

Bama's all out attack mode finally backfired.

Deaderick all out attack mode on Jordan Jefferson by doing illegal acts of spearing didn't backfire.

But calling a code red on a kids locker backfired.

The lesson learned:

Whine a lot until you get your way.

Make sure the whining is public.

It's gonna be hilarious when the first SEC impact player from another team decides that he'd like to compete for championships, too or get himself NFL ready by playing a year at Alabama. The bitching and moaning will be deafening!

Seems that by the time this goes through (assuming it does) he'll have missed most of fall camp and will still have to go through the acclimation process before he can practice in full pads. I don't see how that makes it worth it to the young man to try and play right now which is what this was about for him since he could've played at UGA after sitting out a year regardless of what Saban did.

He obviously has some talent but he needs a good season of more PT for a better shot at the NFL and this puts him behind that goal even though he's familiar with the defense and role he'll play, he hasn't had time to earn a spot or get into 'football shape.'

Shame it worked out this way as I really feel this was pissing match between Saban and Smart more than anything else.
