Vince Dooley's legend is Herschel Walker's biggest achievement.

Shug Jordan won 1 SEC title in 25 years and averaged going 7-3

Pat Dye was not overrated at all. I think the argument could be made he was underrated. He had a couple of teams that easily could have won national titles if the odds had been in their favor nationally.

Sly Croom.

The man deserves no recognition. He was horrible and bitter and just an all around bad person, but most SEC fans liked him.

Bear by a long shot. Benefited from unlimited recruiting and scholarships, a time when college football was not as big as it is now for other schools, coached during some very bad times for other SEC schools.

Not saying he wasn't good, just that he wasn't the unbeatable god that many claim him to be and would be mediocre at best if he was coaching today.

Pat Dye has to be viewed through the same prism that Steve Spurrier is looked at.

Dye came into a program that had been down for the past several years... had a single SEC Championship on its program resume... during an era in which Bear Bryant was coaching on the other side of the state and had won 8 consecutive Iron Bowls. And 9 years later he had won Auburn 4 SEC Titles and had a 6-3 record in Iron Bowls (including a loss in his first season).

While his accomplishments fall far short of Spurrier's, its a similar situation. Spurrier comes to Florida... a program with zero SEC Championships... and becomes the dominant program in the conference almost immediately.

To me, you have to look at the general context with those two. Sure, Dye lacks a National Title... and Spurrier lacks the National titles compared to guys like Bryant and Saban..... but considering what both of those men inherited, built, and left behind, they both certainly rank up as two of the coaching greats in SEC history. No doubt.

Probably an overstep as a legend, but Dale Brown - Good recruiter and motivator, but a absolute shite bench coach. Kind of like our current football coach.

It's either Jordan, "Tie" Dye or Dooley.

Paul Dietzel may not be considered an SEC coaching legend because he was only at LSU 7 years and had one magical year in 1958 (with homegrown talent).

OK, then yall need to give credit to Hallman for bringing in the talent that enabled DiNardo to get that 10 win season in 96.

This may be the dumbest thing I've ever read here. you must be a youngun. One of those who knows nothing past 2005 but believe you do. This is totally ignorant. EVERYBODY played with no schollie limits. UNLIKE your Bertman who piled up titles with the scholarship advantage of the lottery. Anyway,,,
As for the question

Tuberville
Stallings
McClendon

Johnny Majors. Won some sec titles when it was much easier (6 conference games, avoided other powers) but could never win the national title. Was owned by inferior Bama teams.

Settled for ties too often

Good coach but I don't understand why he gets do much love

Overrated as frick. Only won 2 SEC titles that were not shared and he's a convicted NCAA cheat. Only went .500 against Bama and that is with Perkins and Curry as HC for over half of his time.

If he coached anywhere other than Auburn he would be just another slightly above average coach.

Next is Shug with his 1 SEC title in 25 years.

Spurrier.

He's a legend yet he only won one title with all the talent he had amassed over the years?

Steve Spurrier is the most overrated coach in the history of college football.
