why do so many people hate Johnny manziel as a football player?

I get that the guy hasn't done hardly anything in the nfl, and his partying is out of control and probably why he isn't on a roster right now, but to say the guy can't play football is ridiculous. He's never truly had a shot in the NFL, having only started a handful of games and was never allowed to be the day 1 starter in Cleveland for an entire season. He's had some bad performances sure, but plenty of good quarterbacks have struggled when they first entered the league, and he'said had some pretty good games as well, even though he was on a terrible team with a coach that seemed to Want him to fail. You can hate Johnny as a person, but to hate him as a football player is absurd.

The real question is, "Why does Johnny Manziel hate himself?"

I have no opinion on him either way. I'm pretty apathetic towards him. Don't really care what happens to him.

Who are you trying to convince with this thread? Why do you care what people on this board think of him?

Ditto.
Not like he ever beat LSU or gave us problems and I appreciated his performance against Bama.
He does seem like a douche bag and a team cancer, but I certainly don't hate him.

What does this even mean? Part of the reason he hasn't "had a shot" (which isn't even true really) is because he's fricked up so badly off the field.

Your post isn't clear. The title implies him as a person and/or football player, but then you say something about how it's okay to hate him as a person?

Because he's the best SEC QB of all time and people are naturally jealous.

thanks, we do
seriously though, he has a ton of talent but he's pissing it away and will end up dying broke sooner than later at this rate. Johnny as a person cant be separate from Johnny as a football player.

Johnny hates himself more than anyone else could possibly hate him.
It's really a sad situation.

He's had a hell of a shot in the NFL. Just because he wasn't the starter doesn't mean he was treated badly, the Browns gave him MANY chances to straighten up because they wanted him.

man, she hit him first. really.
it appears that JFF simply could not handle fame and success. I actually pity him. we coddle athletes so much that they often develop no sense of worth as a person. most of them do, but many are just loose cannons.

I think a lot of ppl were pulling for him when he started out. He's a very entertaining player. And the I don't give a damn attitude the neglect for his profession and the domestic violence has made a lot of those ppl angry. When you hope for a kid and he does the things Johnny does it's a little bit of a heartbreak situation and that leaves ppl extra bitter. I really think the kid is walking a dangerous path and fear for his safety. I hope he gets his life together because losing a young person is always tragic.

This is a gross understatement. He looked flat out lost on the field a lot of the time.
Make no mistake, the Browns desperately wanted this to work. Manziel just didn't put in the effort needed to be a QB in the NFL. I'll never forget the story about him showing up to the 2014 Indianapolis game shortly after noon for a 1pm kickoff. At the time, Hoyer was clinging to the starting job by a thread (and would have probably lost it if Manziel showed he wanted it in any way) and that was a game in which Manziel absolutely could have played in if he gave a damn.

The same reason why people hate Cam Newton and any other athlete that has experienced hardship in their personal life. People in this world are miserable, and they love to be able to point to talented or successful people and mock them. It makes them feel better about their own miserable existence.
Johnny has a problem. He needs help, not mockery.

He beat Bama, won the Heisman, and took A&M to a top 5 ranking when everybody said A&M wouldn't even make it to a bowl game.
He pissed off Bama, Texas , and Oklahoma fans that year. That is a "perfect storm" of hatred.

I will never pity someone who made millions based on their inherent athletic abilities. It's their own fault if they can't act like a decent human.
