The backfield just got a little more thin in Athens. Junior running back A.J. Turman has left the Georgia football team. Turman was not listed on the roster in the spring media guide and a team spokesman told the Athens Banner-Herald Wednesday that he is no longer on the roster. Turman never saw the field in his first two seasons with the Bulldogs.

I'm going to read between the lines and say that Chubb will take the field in the Dome against UNC.

Honestly, he was really not even providing depth it seems. Unlikely to see the field, so I think it's smart to encourage him to look elsewhere if he still wants to play.

Well..... I guess he will not be the best looking G Day back this year....
You are right..... He has been processed...

He was not processed something was wrong with him from day one. Doubt he ever plays ball again and wish him the best.

That's 14 total players from that 2013 class who left the program early.
Turman looked really good in last year's spring game. It sucks that, for whatever reason, he was never able to get onto the field.

I hope he lands somewhere and plays. Best of luck to the guy.

That sucks, I was hoping that the new staff could get him ready for some needed depth and a bruiser 4th quarter RB that pounds people but that's that!

Just read that Georgia blocked him from transferring to Florida or Miami. I can see why we would block him from Florida, but why Miami? He is appealing this to the NCAA though.

This answers my earlier question about if Kirby will continue Richt's policy of unconditional release upon transfer. Good for him. CMR's approach to that was another self-imposed competitive disadvantage.

Dammit, man.
I imagine no Miami because of Richt.

Because if they let Turman go there, more will want to jump ship? Only reason I can think.

Didn't really think about that.
Have no problem with UF at all, or any other school we play every year.

I agree. Brandon Adams podcast also broke it down incredibly simply. I'll paraphrase, but essentially he said:
Imagine the NCAA started allowing teams to play with 12 men on the defensive side of the ball, but UGA says 'well, traditionally we've always played with 11, so we're going to keep doing that'. Kirby's not paid to be nice, and Turman went to Kirby indicating he wanted to play closer to home. Plenty of programs in the state of Florida not named Miami and UF. FSU, USF, UCF are just a few that have "name" programs and he'd be more likely to see the field at USF/UCF anyways.

Leave it to Chip Towers to write a piece that takes a rational decision by the University and Smart and make it a knock against them as a "step back"... LINK
I love that they also reference our shitty substance abuse policy which while admirable is another competitive disadvantage which neither the conference nor the NCAA seem interested in catching up to.

This was the part that was of interest to me... I don't understand why Turman would have been interested in going to Miami when he never had a shot to see the field under Richt before. To me it just seemed like it was an explicit statement to set a precedent for any other players that were uncertain following spring ball... no easy outs.

“I wanted to set the precedent for the future that kids would not be able to go to Miami right away,” Smart said. “It’s very important that we understand that, and that’s pretty much standard operating procedure when a coach leaves one place, that a kid can’t go there with the coach. That’s important to me that people understand that.”
quote:
“Please understand that A.J. Turman is going to be able to go where he wants to go,” Smart said. “Part of the reason A.J. is leaving is he did not play here. He played two springs here and played pretty good, and we need A.J. Turman on this team. We tried to keep A.J. Turman on this team. But he is not being blocked to where he wants to go. Let’s make that perfectly here.
Because he did not play here, and the person that was coaching him here is now there at Miami. So that has nothing to do with where he wants to go. He doesn’t want to go to Miami, he’s made that perfectly clear to me.”

I think it's great that mcgarity has lost power and has been reduced to voicing his displeasure through chip towers.

Looks like Crossing Smart is bad for job security at this point in time.
